Lo Nuevo

Sorbo A Sorbo Old Vines Garnacha 2014

Catches your eyes with that red, red rose painting on the label. Dark like a mix of coffee and blood in the glass. Smells opulent and rich. Mocha, berry pie and dill/anise pickles on the nose if that makes any sense. Flavors are big, bold and dense. Bit of smoke, plenty of ripe black cherry, rose hip teas, black salty licorice, and dark chocolate nibs. This is stuff that says, I am Spanish red, hear me roar! But it’s also fairly balanced and holds a silky elegance too. β€” 5 months ago

Rosella's Vineyard Syrah 2018

Maybe the best vintage that I have tasted from Roar. Nose is definitely still closed an hour after decanting. Fruit is rich and what a powe mid-palate! Long finish. Nicely powerful and juicy. Fine tanins. There...enough blabbing. β€” 6 months ago

Alturas Yorkville Highlands Syrah 2013

First thought was if the color "purple " had a flavor this would be it. Got a bit more complex as we went further. Some delicate mineral type notes. Label says 13.6 alc and at first I LOVED the balance but the alc crept up later so now I wonder if a little BS on the alc . I like this wine and I'll also say its the first syr I've dug in a looooong time and makes me want to hv another. This is one of my last btls from the first bottling run at Roar in 2014. β€” 2 years ago

Bionzo Barbera d'Asti Superiore 2017

9.1

Excellent, dry Barbera D' Asti Superiore. 2017 vintage. Had at a restaurant in Austin, great "find". Again, Superiore (pronounced "Super- roar-e", this is not Spanish). Big and fairly bold for a Barbera, aromatic and flavorful purple dark berry soft smooth palate balanced balanced light tannins. Didn't taste all those weird things some peeps did...maybe more later if wine can be found for a next time ...will buy again when at Osteria 68 Degrees. β€” a month ago
