Amazing. Night before the kids left and nana and poppy with pi. Light and refreshing — 5 months ago
Lime pith swells with shallot, lemon peel and lemon-poppy bread, seashell, chive, carnation, orchids, candied grapefruit peel bouquet. Dry and enticing entry, has a Chablis like austerity, but rounder, showing chamomile and caper with lemon juiciness. .

I'd probably save my money for something more unique in the retail $80 range, BUT in the $30 clearance world, this is exceptional and I come out ahead. Intensity, concentration, texture, and assemblage that I'd generally have to shell out for. Drink this at a warmer cellar temp to get the full effect.
It smells like vanilla spiced lemon poppy seed coffee cake with cinnamon crumble. The mouth introduces tropical accents - lemon meringue, sweet pineapple, and starfruit.
The texture is a tight rope act of melting cream and acid - ying and yang, fair exchange. — 4 months ago
Honestly? I didn’t have high hopes for this. I’ve been storing it under non-optimal conditions since 2009. But, wow, this is gorgeous. Wild strawberry, raspberry, marasca cherry, balsam, white truffle, red licorice, poppy, dried plum, kalamata olive, autumn leaves, wet river rock, barbecue smoke, umami. Incredibly complex, silky, and surprisingly vibrant. Not much primary fruit left, but it doesn’t come across as tired or faded at all. There are still enough tannins to give it structure but overall this wine is very light on its feet—yet somehow it’s 14.9% alcohol?! I’d have guessed 13.5. There’s definitely some heat, but it’s still pretty elegant and lean. This was such a delightful surprise, and brought me back to my early days in the wine industry. — a year ago
2005 holding up well. Morel, shiitake, crimini, and baked plum, with baked grape for good measure, poppy blossom, squash bread, baked squash blossoms, and bresaola. Rich palate with firm tannin shows oolong, strong graphite core, nutmeg, fine Connecticut tobacco, pepper, dill, and a touch of anise. Bold for its age, and vibrant. Fruits emerge on a long finish; dusty cherry and cocoa, dried black currant, powdered blackberry and cassis.

Nice merlot! — 7 months ago
Young and fresh from the glass with black cherry, cranberry, roses and poppy. Great vintage holding up phenomenally! Black and bing cherry palate with soft, textural black olive, bright raspberry, lingonberry and catalyst salinity. Juicy! Great acidity makes this seem so young in every way, the only hint is a slight fade to brick, but mostly unvarying rim to rim.

End of the evening dessert & wine- paired with Hastings’ finest gluten free almond macaroon cookies, chocolate cookies, & poppy seed tea cake. Given the graceful aging next time I would pair with cheeses & less sweets. Still, a window into a well produced 26 yro wine with beautifully rounded white flower & faded apple notes. Medium body & a flavor transparency that I found beguiling. For about 30$ a qpr — 4 months ago
