Conca Tre Pile Barbera d'Alba 2021

2021 vintage. A bit of everything. Esteemed producer. Excellent nose. Front-palate richness. Mid-palate power and presence. Pleasantly astringent and beyond substantial finish. I usually eschew Barbera d'Alba for the resto list but couldn't deny this one. Picked up two cases and may pick up more to have laying around for 1.5-2 years. At the ridiculous resto price of $26.67, I can't afford not to. So delicious. 01.29.25. — 6 days ago

Romirasco Bussia Barolo Nebbiolo 2005

Very impressive showing for this Barolo, elegant & complex with red cherry, strawberry, menthol, lots of spice, dried herbs, rose petal & a smoky, tar note — 9 days ago

San Valentino Sangiovese Blend 2017

Popped and poured; enjoyed over the course of 90 minutes. The 2017 San Valentino pours a slightly hazy, ruby color with medium+ viscosity and light staining of the tears. On the nose, the wine is developing with notes of tart, red fruit: sour Montmorency cherry, wood varnish, horse blanket, black licorice, old wood, and stony earth. On the palate, the wine is dry with medium tannin and medium+ acid. Confirming the notes from the nose. The finish is long and zippy. One of the more wild vintages of San Valentino I’ve ever had and this bottle wasn’t quite as good as the one I had a couple years back. Drink now and enjoy what nature gave to Paolo and Giampiero. — a month ago

Rocche dell'Annunziata Riserva Barolo Nebbiolo 2010

Classic Barolo via the stellar 2010 vintage (now +15 yrs). Medium / pale garnet and pours to a transparent center. Pop-and-pour to taste, with a much needed 2-hour decant to follow. Bone dry, high tannin and medium+ acidity, just like I like it. Tons of dark red fruit; this is drinking exceptionally well now, but would certainly benefit from 10-15+ more years in the cellar as the nose continues to develop. The finish is long / strong and heavily structured; simply a gorgeous expression of the Rocche dell’Annunziata Riserva! — a month ago
