Dark and pure plum on the nose with a hint of tobacco. Quite woozy and plush and scented with floral notes (rose and violet). Supple and savory with great clarity and balance. Very poised and drinking well now. Very good.

The total package, just about everything you can ask from a wine. Length, complexity, total harmony of flavors. Probably more elegant and silky in 5-10 years.

One of the all time Barolo greats, this did not disappoint. I figured it might be pretty coiled up but it relented some with some air. At open the nose was pretty tight as expected so this was a decant for a while to open up. After about 2 hours it relented and while still pretty tight it was a glorious preview of what this wine will offer with another 5+ years, I'd even say 10.
The color was a shade or two darker than a medium ruby. The nose was all about the tar right now, with a hint of floral and red fruits in the background accented with some spice box and leather.

The palate relented less than the nose with fairly firm grippy tannins on the finish, not surprising given the yourthful encounter thus far. Perfect acidity had my palate begging for a braised of Osso Buco!
