Mount Pleasant Wines

Rosehill Vineyard Shiraz 2019

I preferred Mt Pleasant much better under McWilliams ownership, single vineyard expressions are not as clear cut as they used to be.
1946 Rosehill not as distinct as it used to be.
Sill one on the Hunter’s better wines

Plumpjack consistently seems to deliver a good drinking wine. This one is no exception. Everything was in check as it should be with this producer. — 9 years ago

Yes said the Seal

Geelong Pinot Noir 2016

Australian winemakers seem to be competing for the Quirkiest name. First we had Sailor Seeks Horse and now Yes, Said the Seal. Both specialising in Pinot Noir. This wine had notes of Cherry red berries Forest floor and unobtrusive spicy oak. The savoury palate reflects the aromas. This was the Winner of the Australian Pinot Challenge recently. Chief Judges were seasoned Show Judge and Burgundy nut Phillip Rich and Jim Chatto chief winemaker at McWilliams. Young Pinot doesn't get much better than this. Tasted again 49 weeks later on 9th September 2018 with consistent notes. Yet made another note on Delectable. — 9 years ago

Lol! Awesome!

Elderton

Command Single Vineyard Shiraz 2002

Deep purple. Nose of purple and black fruits echoed on the palate. Still marked by polished oak. Tannins smooth. A little alcoholic. Drops off a bit in mid palate and on the finish. Good with grilled sausage, potato salad and friends. Thanks for sharing @ Mary McWilliams. — 11 years ago

Le Vieux Donjon Châteauneuf-du-Pape Red Rhone Blend 2003

Wine of the night. Enchanting nose of collapsed tannins, violets, soy sauce. Palate is gentle, refined, and complex. I agree with the reviewer who noted there is something of the Northern Rhône about this. Beautiful work. 🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻 @Mary McWilliams Merry Christmas! — 9 years ago

Mount Pleasant Wines

Maurice O'Shea Hunter Valley Shiraz 2007

2007 vintage. McWilliams Mount Pleasant's premium red cuvée from the Hunter Valley. Mocha, Loam and berry notes. Medium bodied palate but this wine is all about intensity from vines now more than a century old. Tannins a little bitter at the finish. Next in 2 years. — 10 years ago

Mount Pleasant Wines

Hunter Semillon 1983

Semillon packaged in a riesling bottle; aged classic from the McWilliam family who have owned the Mt Pleasant Hunter Valley vineyards since the 50s; this at 32 years under a good cork (phew) is together; 11%; taut acid, brassy colour; honied palate with more body than expected; unoaked; splendid; sold under a NSW government endorsement of quality and authenticity (such insecurity at that time!!); drunk with Cinco's restaurant-made pastrami #semillon #huntervalley #mcwilliams — 11 years ago

McWilliam's

Regional Collection Clare Valley Riesling 2002

Amazingly I only bought this 16 year old Riesling a few weeks ago. Released from McWilliams Cellars where it has been sitting since it was made. Clare Valley is known for its Riesling and this from the great 2002 vintage. Drinking at its peak with strong kerosene notes and has filled out on the palate. Good to see this under screw cap all those years ago. Great QPR at $409 for the dozen. Tasted 65 weeks later on August 10 2019 with consistent notes. Tasted blind in our Wine Tasting Group - some tasters thought European. Very good mature Riesling. — 8 years ago

Vat 1 Hunter Valley Semillon 2009

Not quite up there with the McWilliams Mount Pleasant gold medal Semillon but very good all the same. This is atypical Semillon with lime, green apples and pears, perhaps a little lees toast flavour, rubber, hay obviously. Great acidity, but could age for at least 5 years before I go for this again - adding in some honeyed notes would be great! — 11 years ago
