This is actually Vintage V 2007, poured in 2021. Dark currant, anise and black licorice on the nose. Soft tannins on the finish. Very good Howell Mtn. Can. — a month ago
Impressive. Vibrant, yet suave. Very well focused with depth and texture. Strawberries and red currants bring this whole experience together. Be warned, locating this is akin to finding rocking-horse shi!t. Wifey rating, with which, I concur. — 5 months ago
You gotta give this bottle some time. After the cork was popped, this one had a pretty funky tart characteristic to it and a metallic kind of character and acidity that was a little off-putting. After 30 minutes, totally different wine. Just ripened black cherry and oregano notes dominate the palate and the entry. Medium bodied wine. Not really all that complex. Nide acidity on the finish..some black pepper and cola. Went much better with Asian StirFry than it did alone. I think I will try to save the other bottle for a couple of years. — 2 years ago
2005 Cab poured in 2021. Light fruit with subtle tannins. I prefer a more bolder Cab but this was very good. — 3 months ago
May have aged it too much but it was great an hour in. — 3 months ago
WNH Zin night.
Knowing the price (forced in to a 3-pack at around $110/bottle), and knowing the pedigree (Mondavi family Howell Mtn zin), you expect a certain quality. It’s not that this was subpar, it was more that this seemed in the wrong league.
My initial reaction was much worse than this final score reflects. I decanted this two hours after having a small glass which was crazy tannic. My initial, and final, thoughts on this wine are that Lamborn’s zin is equal in quality at less than half the price. That’s a significant difference. Similar to Lamborn, this isn’t overly hot, jammy or disjointed. The structure here is actually quite nice, and improved only slightly the longer it was open. It is closer to a cab, or maybe powerful merlot, in profile. There is a distinct Andes chocolate mint note prevalent throughout. Aromatically, it’s a touch high toned with bright red and black fruits, but on the palate, it shows a touch more complexity...Andes chocolate mint, spiced black raspberries, currant, and cedar. This isn’t getting any better, so open if you have it. — 3 months ago
This is lovely. Not a typical Napa zin. Cocoa, plums, tons of earth and some minerals. Just a bit of vanilla as well. Hides the high abc well. — 7 months ago
The other bottles need to sit for 3 to 5 years. This bottle is good, but this one sat with cork out for 4 hours and then slow oxed an additional 12 and still don't think it was expressing the way it should have! Blackberry and blueberry dominant. Stiff tannic opening. Lots of pepper in the finish. Great weight. Good backbone but not overly expressive at this time. Gonna be good in a few. — 2 years ago
