Mille e Una Notte Contessa Entellina Nero d'Avola 2016

Delectable Wine
9.3

A captivating display of blackberry, plum, grilled herbs, cedar dust and balsamic spice wafts up from the 2016 Mille e una Notte. It’s silky in texture and polished in feel, offering ripe black fruits lifted by cooling minerality. This remains tightly wound up in its youthful state, as a fine coating of sweet tannin settles in to create a structured finale, with pretty purple-tinged florals and hints of licorice lingering long. The 2016 may be one of the most refined expressions of Mille e Una Notte that I’ve ever tasted, but it will need some time to show its best. This is composed primarily of Nero D'Avola, Petit Verdot and Syrah, which is expertly refined in new barriques for 14 months. (Eric Guido, Vinous, June 2021)

Strawberries and violets. Fantastic with lasagna. Like maybe one of the best options for it. — 6 months ago

Ben Ryé Passito di Pantelleria Zibibbo 2017

Delectable Wine
9.2

The 2017 Passito di Pantelleria Ben Ryé is deeply alluring and layered, mixing a rich display of dried mangoes, apricots and figs with lifting notes of dusty flowers, citrus peels, and cardamom. It's silky in texture, achieving a contrasting balance of salinity and sweetness, and showing grilled pineapple, peach nectar, clove, and honey. Tart orange-infused oily textures linger incredibly long, along with a salty note of toffee and exotic spice. The 2017 doesn’t have the glycerol weight of some of the best vintages, yet makes up for it with loads of character. (Eric Guido, Vinous, June 2021)

Dea Vulcano Etna Rosso Nerello Mascalese Nerello Cappuccio 2018

Inviting nose with raspberries and dried cranberries + a pinch of herbs & spice and an earthy undertone.
On the palate this is quite light & soft yet with fine & persistent tannins and juicy acidity. Very Pinot like in colour, nose & body - with an extra pinch of Mediterranean spice.
This is a nice one and a welcome come-back of Donnafugata to the Sicilian roots - much better than their Cerasuolo di Vittoria.

Bianco Anthìlia 2018

Primarily made with the native Cataratto grape, this Sicilian white features fresh and fruity aromas of yellow apple, peach, white flowers and a touch of lemon zest. Same fruits on the pallet. Hint of saline on the finish. Mild (but tangy) acidity helps this wine to be quite thirst quenching and refreshing. Straw gold color and lovely texture. — 23 days ago
