Scarlet tawny and opaque. Great, complex nose offering notes of black cherries, herbal tobacco leaf and freshly cut Cuban cigar, cedar wood and a hint of menthol. Nicely balanced in the mouth. Gave it 5 hours of air in a decanter and patience was rewarded with a great aged Bordeaux experience. Great stuff. Paired with a 92 Dominus it was interesting to find how much these wines resemble each other. — 3 days ago
Drank beautifully after a short decant. Rich dark plum and ripe blackberries, this was a warm vintage and that certainly shows but the grainy tannins held the backbone and keep this from being unremarkable. — 3 days ago
#6 on WS top 100 wines of 2007.
2 hour decant (decent chunky sediment). A dazzling dark ruby red color. On the nose: perfumed nose, black fruit, menthol, earthy, green veggie, graphite. Taste: a smooth and silky wine with dark fruit, spice, earthy, and a cherry pencil lead medium plus slightly tannic finish. Still just a little young and slightly austere...it will be better with a few more years on it. But with the decant, it will be enjoyed over the next couple hours this Saturday night! Cheers! — 10 days ago
Mature wine that is in great shape. All the typical aromas of Cabernet are there, and so are the tanins and the acidity. Well balanced, elegant, ready to drink. Textbook Saint-Julien on a vintage from my experience better than the more famous 1990. — a day ago
Very serious. Big, beef-blood character. Way more extracted style than I recall from the ‘99. Will be interesting to revisit in a decade. Big upside development potential. — 21 hours ago
Fantastic wine and just my style!
1hr+ decant, which was perfect. Dark red color with aging on the edges. Classic Bordeaux nose of cherries, earth, cigar box, and cedar. Dark cherries, smoke, and charred meat on the palate. Medium depth with some grittiness to it, and above average tannins. Medium plus finish. Loved it!
Would drink now as it’s slowly starting its decline. — 18 days ago
