Domaine François Buffet

Carelles sous la Chapelle Volnay 1er Cru Pinot Noir 2021

Lyle Fass
9.5

I adore the classic style of 2021 and they are so approachable. What a gorgeous wine. Look at that color. The nose is ethereal cherries and spice. So perfectly ripe but mid season, cool climate cherries. Sea air and forest floor but all so delicate and elegant. Unreal. 9.7 nose. Palate is so forward, round and juicy. Has that middleweight perfection of 21 and that clear, luscious red fruits. Like a sphere on the palate. Awesome. Lovely sour and mid season cherry. So wispy and nimble. Almost like a German Swiss Pinot but very Burgundy. — 6 days ago

La Petite Chapelle Hermitage Syrah 2012

3 years since previous bottle, very mild integrated tannins, rich deep fruit mellowing into forest floor. Aromatic, some complexity over the evening. Nice. — 2 months ago

Assumed this would be over the hill at this point but it was in a perfect spot of harmony. A pleasant surprise! — 3 months ago

Château La Chapelle aux Moines

Saint-Émilion Red Bordeaux Blend 2020

Beautifully oak forward, if a little bit too much, especially once it opens up. Missing a bit of body but there's a nice spicy red fruit notes and strong hint of cherries. Quite a nice one for it's price. — 4 days ago

Domaine De La Grand'Cour (Jean-Louis Dutraive)

Chapelle des Bois Fleurie Gamay 2018

So I guess this is a Gamay from the Rhône? Didn’t know such a thing existed but this is the best “Rhône” I’ve had in a long time - mostly bc it’s a Beaujolais through and through - classic muddy/cloudy consistency, intense fruit on the nose. Only issue is that it’s still very sparkly on the palate, so definitely needs a few more years. Or a very long decant. Tons of potential — 2 months ago
