Domaine La Rogerie

Chemin de Chalons Avize et Cramant Grand Cru Blanc de Blancs Chardonnay 2018

Such an incredible Champagne from surely the the next grower to develop that cult following. Straddling Avize and Cramant, single vineyard BdB Chemin de Chalons, (also made by Jacques Selosse), is a stunning expression of the site and the iconic village of Avize. It’s incredibly elegant, pure and detailed with seductive aromatics, a chalky mineral core and an amazing pillowy mousse that fills the mouth and continues to stay with you, giving way to its long and racy finale. Chemin des Papes

Châteauneuf-du-Pape Red Rhone Blend 1998

This was a nice surprise, a basic CNdP bought recently at auction that probably only cost a few euros on release. Featuring an effusive nose of macerated cherry, iron, dates and blood orange, the palate is less spectacular but pleasant nonetheless, quite charming on entry but quickly fading. I cooked roast shoulder of lamb tonight with a lavender jus, and this was an apt pairing.

Edit: on night two, this had opened up and was a tremendous wine

The bottle I had a year and a half ago was more impressive. Quince, honeysuckle, wet slate. — 2 months ago

Chemin de Sainte-Epine Saint-Joseph Syrah 2018

Lyle Fass

Big deep grapey nose. Tons of granite and blackberry but also red berries as well. A very evocative and encompassing nose. Some pepper, spice and herbs as well. Complex and inviting. Palate is soft and structured with an intense pepperiness. Supple and melty with gorgeous red fruits and also blackberry. Very pure and perfectly balanced with really nice tannins. Excellent wine. — 6 months ago

Very nice. Finish is crisp and livery. All kinds of dried fruit with overtone of apple and pear. A nice champagne. — 6 months ago

Jacques Selosse

Lieux Dits Cramant Chemin de Châlons Extra Brut Blanc de Blancs Grand Cru Champagne Chardonnay

Disgorged March 2017. As fresh a Selosse as I have ever had. A big boy full of power and complexity. On the nose a complex mixture of citrus ,honey , apple, florals and earth. When you finally taste, it enters your mouth like a 30 foot wave that crashes your palate yet somehow it is not heavy but elegant. Acid that lets you enjoy an endless finish. — 7 months ago

@Alan Weinberg I purchased both the Selosse and the Salon when prices were expensive but “doable”. I recall saying to myself when I bought them it’s now or never , unfortunately we are now in the “never” world.
