Fossil & Till

Davis Vineyard Petillant Naturel Riesling

Fascinating pale gold straw color.

A cidery in the nose. Pears, fresh cut cold apple slices, peaches, slight essence of cardamom.

What a refreshing quality of effervescence to add to a tart, mineral, and blade of grass of a wine.

This is just fun, and reinvents this varietal for lovers of Riesling.

Always see the producer around and Simply Wine just added new bottles to their collection, subbing this slot in for Scribe (which is good, known, and kill the branding game, but not always best value).

Plus we got Finger Lakes in the house, which always feels great to support the local-ish wine scene.

Welcome addition.

Monistrol Prestige Cuvée Selección Especial Cava Macabeo-Xarel-lo-Parellada

Delightfully floral, with honeysuckle, lemon peel, citrus, and maybe bright melon. Crisp and fresh with a little toast at the finish. Madly in love. Sipping while I listen to Miles Davis on the patio in 92 degree heat. It's perfect. — a month ago

Howell Mountain Cabernet Sauvignon 2016

Cade vs Davis Howell Mountain showdown - 2016 edition - tasted blind

Cade was the group favorite. Deep blueberry and blackberry, vanilla, cinnamon, but not overwhelming, grippy yet fine and integrated tannin, medium pleasant acidity. Long finish. Ready to go.

Davis: nice redcurrant, red cherry, blueberry notes. A distinct cooling mintiness and some herbal notes. More structured with dusty tannin and higher acidity, very slight bitterness on an otherwise pleasing long finish. This was the more obvious mountain cab. The Davis has at least 5 years to improve...would probably show better than the Cade then.
