Feminessence Châteauneuf-du-Pape Red Rhone Blend 2017

2017 vintage. @ Mister A’s Restaurant, San Diego-Les Caves de St. Charles CDP dinner. Initially, an absolute ballbuster. Massive tannins with a modicum of velveteen fruit at the end of a long tunnel. After two hours? Surprise! Change partners and the nearsome, fearsome tanninfest coalesced into the velveteen fruitfest. Remarkable concentration, tho, from start to finish over the course of the dinner. Best newer-vintage CDP, out of roughly 200, that I’ve had in the last two years. Just a remarkable chameleon. Supposedly 50/50 Grenache/Syrah. Worth the hunt. 11.16.23. — 13 days ago

Château Tour Saint-Christophe

Saint-Émilion Red Bordeaux Blend 2020

80% Merlot & 20% Cabernet Franc.
a nose of espresso, dark fruit, licorice, chocolate and floral notes. Great dark opulent fruits of black & blueberries. Very delicate palate, lush and fresh with beautiful acidity. Superb juice with a great p/q and long life ahead, drinking great already. (15% alc.)

Château Cos d'Estournel

Les Pagodes de Cos Saint-Estéphe Red Bordeaux Blend 2010

A caveat - this is direct from the Chateau. I bought a different vintage from a local store and it is quite different. This is just a direct hit for me. Great spine, smooth finish, and great terroir. Even with shipping, this is good value and I just ordered a case of the 2013, 10 years on but direct from chateau. I have a soft spot for Cos having visited with a highly recommended tour with Anais there. We’re fans — 24 days ago

La Tour Saint-Martin Morogues Menetou-Salon Sauvignon Blanc 2020

More minerally, and a bit sweet, than is typical for a Sauvignon Blanc, this paired well with fish and with pasta and cream sauce. — 6 months ago

Domaine de la Tour du Bon

Saint Ferréol Bandol Mourvedre 2018

Not corked this time! Really pretty wine. Savory dark red fruit. Plush tannins and relatively low acidity.

The main reason I’m scoring lower is because I had Ridge Mataro ($42) and Dirty and Rowdy Mourvèdre ($26) this week and they were both equally interesting for far less than $70.
