2020 vintage. Equal parts of Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon with 9% of Petit Verdot. Paired it with the same vintage of the best wine of the Haut-Médoc appellation, La Lagune. While it doesn't have the concentration and depth of the latter, Villegeorge stands on its own in a lighter, more forward style, with elegance, freshness and silky tannins. Terrific value. Abv 13,5%. — 2 years ago
2019 vintage. From 30 hectares in Haut-Medoc, owned by the Quié family ( also Rauzan-Gassies and Croizet-Bages). A fine effort, showing that the Quié family is finally serious about quality, after decades of mediocrity. Much more evolved in colour compared to the 2019 Moulin de La Lagune tasted alongside. Ripe, slightly jammy fruit. Serve slightly cold to keep the high alcohol ( 15% abv.) in check. — 3 years ago
This wine is rich and bold, but not in your face. It has been described as being incredibly sexy and full-bodied. I can’t disagree. This wine makes me want to learn more about the Northern Rhône wines.
Fact: Jaboulet Hermitage was purchased by Caroline Frey family in 2006 (the Frey family also owns Chateau La Lagune). I really love Chateau La Lagune.
And there is no doubt that this wine is best paired with Miles Davis Kind of Blue on the turntable. Prove me wrong. — 4 years ago
2015 vintage. This is a red Savigny-lès-Beaune, so Pinot Noir from the " Monopole" vineyard " Clos des Guettotes". Château Corton-André was bought in 2014 by the Frey family and the name changed into Château Corton C. A good start for Caroline Frey (also Château La Lagune and Paul Jaboulet Ainé) with this delicious elegant Savigny with impeccable balance and velvety mouthfeel. Abv. 13%. — 4 years ago
2019 vintage. This ancient estate was bought in 1999 by Bernard Magrez who expanded the vineyards in such a way that today it is the largest Cru Classé vineyard in Bordeaux. The 2019 vintage is a blend of equal parts Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon. While it is no match for the impressive La Lagune 2019 tasted alongside, this La Tour Carnet is terrific value. Dark coloured, with smokey oak, black fruit and leather in the nose. Powerful taste, with concentrated fruit, good acidity and ripe tannin. Good length too. More extraction and less finesse compared to La Lagune, but highly recommended at 26,90 euros. — 5 years ago
Blend of Grenache (60%), Cinsault (30%) and Syrah (10%). Elegant light salmon color. Bright aromas of white flowers, peach and fresh herbs. Strawberry, watermelon, apricot and currant fruits on the palate with a touch of minerality on the finish. Solid balance and medium bodied. Rich, mellow and fresh tasting. Thanks for opening this one, Chris B! Revisited in April 2023. Still pleasant and refreshing. — 2 years ago

Great Northern Rhône. Expensive but actually worth it. — 3 years ago
2020 vintage. First vintage for the Perrodo family, who bought this estate from French Bank Crédit Agricole in late 2019. True to type elegant Margaux with the hallmark freshness of this great vintage. A solid effort, but definitely not in the same league as the excellent La Lagune 2020 tasted alongside. Terrific value though. An estate to watch. Abv. 14%. — 4 years ago
2020 vintage. Bordeaux meets Rhône in this original blend of Cabernet Sauvignon from La Lagune and Syrah from Jaboulet. Needs some time, so decant or give it 15 minutes in the glass. Black fruit ( blackberries, cassis) intertwined with Provence spices. Juicy and spicy, with complexity and very good length. Highly recommended. Abv. 13,5 %. — 4 years ago
This is deferent from 2010, 1996. 2nd of 2008. Concentrated to the direction of earthy, burned flavor, same as Lagune, Gloria. Château Lagrange Saint Julien 2008 @2450, xiaduo - Eric Cai, 210427-210511 — 5 years ago
2022 vintage. A blend of 53% Merlot, 36% Cabernet Sauvignon and 11% Petit Verdot. As Siran is consistently of Cru Classé quality, I've put the bar high, tasting it next to the 2022 La Lagune. While it doesn't have the depth and quality of tannins of the latter, Siran 2022 is an impressive effort, a classic Margaux in the same league as the magnificent 2019 Siran. — 2 years ago
2020 vintage. Nose is classic Pauillac , with cassis and lead pencil. Juicy black fruit, with the freshness of the vintage, but the tannin is a bit rough, and it lacks a bit of length. Good, but seems to be outperformed by other estates at the same price point ( Pédesclaux, Lynch-Moussas, La Lagune to name just a few). Abv. 13%. — 2 years ago
2020 vintage. The heavy investments by the Lorenzetti family are paying off. The ugly duckling turned into a beautiful swan. Kudos to Vincent Bache-Gabrielsen, Manon Lorenzetti, and team. This impressive 2020 is a blend of 56% Cabernet Sauvignon, 34% Merlot, and equal parts of Cabernet Franc and Petit Verdot. Classy nose with blackcurrant, cedar wood and lead pencil. In the mouth, it is focused, with succulent layered black fruit, juicy acidity and haute couture tannins. Very long and fresh finish. Amazing value too. — 3 years ago
2015 vintage. From an estate bought in 2014, Caroline Frey (also La Lagune and Jaboulet) makes her mark with this Auxey-Duresses. In an appellation where rusticity is the norm, this is very elegant, with bright red cherry fruit, velvety tannin and very good length. Affordable for Burgundy. Abv. 13,5%. — 4 years ago

2018 vintage. This estate was bought by Jacky Lorenzetti in 2007 and the investments are paying off (see also the spectacular quality improvement at their Pauillac estate Pédesclaux). While previous vintages featured a majority of Merlot, this 2018 is a blend of 59% Cabernet Sauvignon, 37%. Merlot and 4% Petit Verdot. This might very well be the best vintage to date for Lilian Ladouys in a year where Jacky's daughter Manon joined the business. She is highly devoted to organic farming and the Lorenzetti estates are now officially in conversion to organic. Moreover, Lilian Ladouys was promoted to "Cru Bourgeois Exceptionnel" status in 2020. An estate to watch and the wines are very affordable too at around 20 euros. Classic nose with ripe cassis and cedar wood, intertwined with a fresh minty aroma. In the mouth the fruit is concentrated and layered with amazing freshness and a solid ripe tannin structure that make the alcohol (abv. 14,5%) go unnoticed. Long mineral finish. Highly recommended. Still very young, give it time to open up or decant. Should age beautifully for at least 15 years. — 5 years ago
