Second 90 Ponsot bottle served blind. Reddish tawny and translucent. Sweet, feminine nose. Notes of bing cherries, rhubarb and spice. Like the CdlR before it, this is well balanced with more of a macerated cherries kind of vibe going (but not as silky). Of the four 90 Ponsots served, I liked the other three more than this one (but if this was the only one served, it probably would vie for WOTN). (Bday 7 of 12) — a day ago
Medium gold color, heavy like motor oil in a glass. Killer, exotic nose. Notes of citrus, sweet lemon, cardamom, tan spice, some cinnamon and some iodine. Rich and palate-staining in the mouth. So much power. Finish goes on forever. This was better earlier in the evening, and for me declined a bit as it got more air… different from the other two 86s tonight which instead powered up with more oxygen. My last bottle of this as well. Killer juice! (Bday 5 of 12) — a day ago
On to the reds and a blind 90 Ponsot horizontal I’m surprising the boyz with. All served blind. First up is the CdlR VV, which we’ve all had many, many times. Dark reddish tawny with a perfumed nose. Notes of bing cherry, sweet rhubarb, some earth and some tantalizing spice. Silky, rich and opulent in the mouth. Coats everything it hits with a big blanket of fruit. Perfect balance of structure, acidity and fruit – all aging in harmony. Super long finish. (Bday 6 of 12) — a day ago
Superb nose, white fruit, some butter, classic and the palate follows suit with great texture, just a touch of sourness on the finish.
Superbe nez, fruits blancs, beurre, à peine miellé, la bouche est sur le même registre, assez droite mais avec une belle texture, seule note discordante une légère amertume un peu trop prononcée en finale. 90-91 — 15 days ago
