Aux Raynauds Chalk Hill Merlot 2015

Well balanced Sonoma merlot in a Right Bank style. The Cab Franc provides some lift and brightness. Drinking well right now but should have a quite a few years ahead. Great value as well. — 22 days ago

This was a bit of a stunner. Complete ringer for Bordeaux but a fraction of the price. Need to get more and see how they develop. — 7 months ago

Dirty & Rowdy

Alder Spring Vineyard Cabernet Sauvignon 2015

Still trying to figure this one out. Achingly young of course. Pop and pour: is this Mourvèdre? A slight funk and dark fruit with an almost effervescant and sprightly tone. This is definitely a @Hardy Wallace wine. After a few hours this is noticeably more tannic on the back end with some cassis fruit and a touch of cedar emerging but still a relatively light body. An hour later this blooms with pencil shaving and clear cassis that makes me think of a young St. Julien, but on the rustic side. Will be interesting to see where this goes over the next decade or two. Kind of excited that @Hardy Wallace is able to create such a fascinating representation of good cru bordeaux in Northern California. Very different in style from Calluna, but that's a representation of the breadth of Bdx maybe. And on an unrelated note, #letsgopens! Sorry @Berg — 4 years ago

Estate Chalk Hill Red Blend 2016

Blend of 47% Cab Sauv, 37% Malbec, 9% Petit Verdot & 7% Merlot, deep Ruby with aromas of dark fruits, herb, tobacco and floral notes. On the palate flavors of blackberry and blueberry fruit with licorice, cacao, leather and oak, well balanced. Fine ripe tannins, long finish ending with fruit, oak and spice. A pleasure to drink. Very nice! — 3 months ago

Stellar example of a Bordeaux-style red blend made in the Bordeaux style, with balanced fruit, oak, and tannins. — 8 years ago

If you were saving a cigar for dipping, here’s your wine. Perfect dark berry and tobacco flavors call for a celebratory cigar if you are so inclined. Lovely bright acidity to moderate the fuller body. — a month ago

Fresh, very clean, but lacked much depth of honestly much interesting going on. Would be great on a really hot day. — 8 months ago

Chalk Hill Merlot 2010

Graphite, red fruit, cassis, slight menthol, no detectable oak. Seems fairly extracted, with a rich mouthfeel but not a touch of RS. Elegant overall, but enough dusty tannins on the finish that I really hesitate to open any more for a few years. This is old school in style. — 4 years ago
