Côte De Nuits, Burgundy

Jean-Marc Millot

Vieilles Vignes Côte de Nuits-Villages Pinot Noir 2019

This was delicious, and a winning blind for me. Having a baseline on the table definitely helped. Although less sweet and intense, I felt the JM Millot was in the same genre as the Métras, with similar texture, floral lift, minerality, and red fruit profile. It was the difference in fruit sweetness that gave it away as being from greater Burgundy, whereby Pinot Noir usually appears less sweet than Gamay to me. The village was definitely a lot harder to identify which made sense upon the reveal - when in doubt, it’s probably from one of the lesser communes (or Morey lol!). Fine, fresh, and energetic, I would have drank a lot more of it if not for the other wines on the table. Another to revisit. — 6 days ago

Les Saint-Georges Nuits Saint Georges 1er Cru Pinot Noir 2014

Ruby with aromas of red and black fruits and complex spice. On the palate, flavors of layered fruit, ripe black cherry and raspberry with cedar, tobacco, herbs and nutty notes. Full soft tannins, balanced juicy acidity, long ending with fruit and earthy character. Outstanding! Wait on this a bit! — 12 days ago

Domaine de la Romanée-Conti (DRC)

Richebourg Pinot Noir 1971

Tasted blind. Tawny color with clear rims. Amazing, sweet nose. Notes of sour cherry, asian spice, mocha, sois bois, dark earth and some salt. Hearty in the mouth. Great structure. Debate ensues about the age of the wine, and my guess is 90 Dujac CdlR. Tells you how good this ~50 year old juice is. Got better over the night. Peacocks and prances about. Can still smell this the next day. — 13 days ago

Gevrey-Chambertin Pinot Noir 2019

Intense aromas of bright red strawberry and dark chocolate. Strawberry flavors also fill the pallet. Hints of mushroom and minerals. Medium bodied. Nice dark garnet color. Silky tannins and a very long finish. Bright and fresh. — 9 days ago

Les Tuyaux Nuits Saint Georges Pinot Noir 2019

This was volatile and unpleasant on opening, but changed dramatically and really opened up with an hour in a decanter. Blackberry and black cherry, warm earth, mineral, ripe but beautifully balanced, silky tannin 😋 — 5 days ago

Domaine Bart

Marsannay Rosé Pinot Noir 2020

N: Strawberries and peaches with some dirt. Shows best when it’s been out for a bit.
P: Nice bright and lip smacking, it hints at cherries. Very herbal, perfect with a blt and white bean/garlic scape dip.
With extended time out, this fills out, develops a cantaloupe rind quality.

Chambertin-Clos de Bèze Grand Cru Pinot Noir 2013

2013 vintage. Courtesy of @Bill Bender Still über-youthful…seemingly released 2-3 years ago based of the flavor/aroma profiles. Cracking black pepper finish that increased in intensity over the course of four hours. — 14 days ago
