Emidio Pepe

Montepulciano d'Abruzzo 2015

Wow. First time with this wine after seeing it across many elite lists. First sip is super grippy but has an immediate and unique sweetness. After long decant, the tannins fade away and sweetness is integrated - the wine is in beautiful balance. Fruit and tension. Italy all the way — 16 days ago

Tenuta delle Terre Nere

Etna Rosso Nerello Mascalese Blend 2021

Popped and poured; enjoyed over two days. Best on Day 2. The 2021 “Etna Rosso” pours a bright ruby color with a transparent core; medium viscosity with no staining of the tears. On the nose, the wine is youthful with bright cherries and raspberries, carnations and rocky minerals. On the palate, medium+ tannin and medium acid. Confirming the notes from the nose. The finish is medium. This is a very pretty wine that wins you over with its charm and it’s versatile on the dinner table as well. Great QPR. Drink now with a little patience and through 2031. — 14 days ago

Masi

Costasera Amarone della Valpolicella Classico Corvina Blend 2017

Brief notes at a good Italian restaurant in Sanctuary Cove. We don’t often drink Amarone but we love it when we do. Rich and supple, blackberry like liquid Fruit and Nut milk chocolate. Touch of liquorice. An excellent match with Beef Ragu with Pappardelle pasta. — 3 hours ago

Produttori del Barbaresco

Barbaresco Nebbiolo 2019

Medium to light ruby , wide ruby garnet rim . Spiced red cherries , with raspberry jam , menthol , grafite , liquorice touches. On the palate juicy spiced sweet red fruits with those liquorice notes and dried herbs. Good balancing acidity and velvety but grippy tannins and slightly noticeable alcohol. Good length with a liquorice, cherry tinged finish. Enjoyable now though will age well over the next 10 years or so . — 7 days ago

Gaja

Ca'Marcanda Promis Toscana Sangiovese Blend 2021

Super Tuscan from Gaja. Wine has a dark ruby appearance. Classic red berry aromas with rustic components of leather and wet wood. On the palate it is full bodied, medium alcohol, medium tannins, medium acidity, with a medium red berry finish. Best wine for my Cacio e Pepe. — 6 days ago

Gaja

Barbaresco Nebbiolo 2001

Calm and poised. A little tight. Some gnarly undertow and contained inky fruit. Less pretty than the other 01’z alongside. — a day ago

Azienda Agricola Fontodi

Flaccianello della Pieve Colli Toscana Centrale Sangiovese 2019

Gorgeous color of deep purple, without variation, earthy nose of mushroom-loam, grilled duck breast, black cherry both dried and ripe, crushed violets, brown sugar and brown bread. Round and supple mouthfeel of red cherry and bing cherry, shows ample cedar and cigar notes, oak and tart raspberry, cracked black pepper, rose petal and finally winds into a smoky graphite point that will undoubtedly blossom over the next decade.
