Inspired by the 50th anniversary of Ali vs Frazier 1, I decided to open the “Ali” and see how it compared to the ‘98 Grange (Frazier) that I drank last month. True to form this bottle “floated like a butterfly and stung like a bee.” Delivered all the power of the Grange with much more finesse. Both wines are true champions but similar to the “Fight of the Century” a slight edge to Grange (Frazier). — 3 months ago

Joseph Phelps Insignia 2008: Bold. Rich. Stunning. Velvety black fruits. Mocha. Eucalyptus. Leather. Consisting of 89% Cabernet Sauvignon, 7% Petit Verdot & 4% Merlot, this was the perfect 1.5L of pure liquid greatness. What better way to celebrate two milestone events but with this extremely special bottle. Simply the finest Napa Valley Bordeaux-style blend ever! Happy Birthday mom & Happy belated 50th Anniversary! Without question the best cabernet franc I’ve ever had from California, this is unfortunately the last bottle I have. I don’t know what happened in 2007, but Gerhard made a spectacular cab franc that has no parallel before or since (of course, the winery no longer exists - at least not in any recognizable form - but you get my meaning). Still drinking incredibly well, this was a singular achievement from what always was a WAY underrated winery. — a month ago
