Monsieur Ètain Rutherford Cabernet Sauvignon 2009

#AgedWineTuesday

Dark ruby in color with a reddish/ brick rim.

Nose of blackberries, black currants, cooked cherries, cedar, cola, vanilla, spices, espresso, light herbs, dark chocolates, tobacco, peppercorn, light alcohol and leather.

Full bodied and elegant with medium acidity and long legs.

Dry and fruity on the palate with blackberries, black plums, figs, tobacco, cedar, leather, vanilla, licorice, spices, herbs, coffee, chocolates and peppercorn.

Long finish with fine grained tannins and tangy cherries.

This is a fabulous Cabernet Sauvignon from Napa Valley. Well balanced with a great mouthfeel. Complex and interesting. Elegant, rich and fruit forward.

This 14 year old is drinking very nicely right out of the bottle, and better with air. Tannins show up after 2 hours in the decanter, and bring in nice structure.

Thank you Scott for sharing this with me.

Does not drink like a 14 year old at all, and feels much younger. Will continue to age nicely in the next few years. Feels like it is nearing its peak. Would be nice to revisit it in 3 years.

Good by itself or with food. A great sipping wine to have with good friends. This is a gorgeous wine.

100% Cabernet Sauvignon grapes were aged in (85% new) French oak barrels for 16 months.

15.2% alcohol by volume.

94 points.

Stoller Family Estate

Dundee Hills Pinot Noir

This is a great value in Pinot noir. Rounded and smooth, with medium acidity and velvety tannins. There’s some crunchy red fruit to lighten it up, but wild blackberry, Asian five spice, cola, clove and that rich turned earth I get from Dundee hills are all here. The volume is a little turned up, but this was surprisingly very well balanced for a great value. Really enjoyed it. All fruit from their 225 acres of estate Pinot aged in 15% new oak for about a year. — 3 years ago

Continuum

Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon Blend 2014

It is time for a delicious Cabernet for my #FridayCabernetfix.

Deep inky in color with a short purple rim.

Fruity nose of blueberries, black cherries, cedar, vanilla, spices, chocolates, herbs, light eucalyptus, black pepper, herbs and black tea.

Full bodied with medium acidity and long legs.

Dry on the palate with blackberries, black currants, plums, cooked cherries, figs, cedar, vanilla, licorice, spices, chocolates, tobacco, herbs, earth and peppercorn.

Long finish with round tannins and tangy cherries.

This 8 year old from the great 2014 vintage, is drinking very nicely now. Fruit forward, rich and extracted.

Showing great complexity already, and will continue to age nicely in the next 20 years.

This Single Vineyard is opulent and very smooth. Gorgeous with generous fruit.

Good right out of the bottle and better after an hour of airtime.

A great sipping wine to have with friends. Good by itself and will pair nicely with a big piece of steak too.

A blend of 65% Cabernet Sauvignon, 15% Cabernet Franc, 15% Petit Verdot and 5% Merlot.

14.8% alcohol by volume.

Failla

Hirsch Vineyard Pinot Noir

Couldn't find entry, logging Stella Sonoma Coast Pinot 2017 here: 225 and Calera clones. Elevated acidity, med tannins. Cola nuts, faint herbs, red plums, blackberry, med+/elevated concentration, overripe strawberry, black tea bag, lavender, tomato, stony characters. ~13% abv. 2017 was super hot in Sonoma, >100 degree heat spikes in June-July cause vines to shut down, rapid ripening more akin to Oregon of erratic growing season (whereas usually California boasts of constant long growing season). Gravel loam soil. 10-40% whole cluster, hand punchdowns, stem inclusion. Foot treaded. WC raises pH as high acid -> more stem inclusion to balance the pH. Failla picks on pH at ~23-24 Brix which would be a bit too high. — 2 years ago

Estate Bottled Spring Mountain District Cabernet Sauvignon 2003

Dark ruby in color with a wide reddish/ brick rim.

Beautiful nose of black fruits, cedar, chocolates, herbs, tobacco leaf and cola.

Full-bodied and elegant with medium acidity.

Dry on the palate with blackberries, black currants, plums, cooked cherries, cedar, mint, vanilla, spices, licorice, espresso, cola, light herbs, eucalyptus, light earth, tobacco leaf, dark chocolates and peppercorn.

Long finish with round tannins and tangy raspberries.

This 20 year old Cabernet Sauvignon from Napa Valley is drinking beautifully now. Showing a gorgeous nose, that I kept on smelling for a while.

Feels much younger than it actually is, complex and well balanced.

Good right out of the bottle with grippy tannins, and better after a couple of hours in the decanter.

Peaking now and good by itself or with food. Will continue to drink nicely in the next 5 years.

A gorgeous wine. I love these older Napa Bordeaux blends.

A blend of 82% Cabernet Sauvignon, 10% Merlot and 8% Cabernet Franc. Aged in new American oak barrels for 22 months. Unfiltered and unfined.

13.8% alcohol by volume.

Very good. Complex. Dark fruit classic. Hint dark cherries, orange peel, spices. But 225$. Worth the money? Not really. — 3 years ago
