It is time for some Merlot on this #MerlotThursday.

Dark ruby in color with a short reddish rim.

Nice nose of black currants, black plums, cooked cherries, spices, oak, licorice, vanilla, tobacco, milk chocolates and black pepper.

Medium plus in body with medium acidity.

Dry on the palate with black currants, plums, cooked cherries, spices, vanilla, licorice, cedar, leather, chocolates, tobacco, peppercorn and light cola.

Long finish with round tannins and tangy cherries.

This is a delicious Merlot based blend from Bolgheri in Tuscany. Feels like a red Bordeaux, with a Napa twist. Interesting stuff.

Elegant and robust. Rich and fruit forward. Nicely balanced with a nice mouthfeel. Spicy and entertaining.

This 3 year old is still young, but already delicious. Will continue to age nicely in the next 10 to 15 years.

Good right out of the bottle, and better with airtime.

A good quality wine that drinks wonderfully by itself. Will also pair nicely with a BBQ Meats.

A blend of 50% Merlot, 40% Cabernet Sauvignon and 10% Cabernet Franc. Aged for 14 months in French oak barrels.

14.5% alcohol by volume.

92 points.

$120.

This Italian Cabernet based blend is pleasant , the nose is complex are rich with earthy notes, coffee, graphite, chocolate, dark fruits, cassis and cherries, medium to full body with firm tannins and a lovely supporting acidity. The finish is lightly dry and elegant. My score 89, drink to 2022

A little too much on the ripe side of things. Much better on the palate than on the nose. Still excellent for the price. #supertuscan #cabernetsauvignon #italy #bolgheri

When first opened it was generic and lame but with an hour it is really turning into something special. Beautiful nose (albeit showing a lot of vanilla and oak) but with Bolgheri class. Saline, red cherry and cola followed by mild dill. It is a beautifully crafted wine that needs time to show itself. I would love to see this in 10 years. Modern and seriously well built. Class act

2 nights in Pitigliano, 2 bottles of this. Couldn't resist. Would it be any different? Yes, and it was even better on the second night. (And 38 euros instead of 40.) Less plum, more earth, chalk, and elegance. Bottle variation can be very interesting.

My favorite super Tuscan comes through again. Bone dry plums, chalk, green pepper, and Mediterranean herbs. That may not sound like a winning combo of flavors but somehow this wine pulls it off. Not as elegant as the 2010 but just as interesting.

Cassis, coffee, leather, game, anise, smoky vanilla pod. Light sea spray. Slightly astringent finish. Tannins need more time to settle.
