Kallstadter Saumagen Auslese Trocken Riesling
Difficult to judge. This wine is super tight and in my opinion should not be drunk now. Medium body notes of licorice with a bitter finish. Impossible to judge could be 5 points higher as well as 5 lower. Needs a lot more time.

Apr 29th, 2021This is some salty Riesling. Saline. Iodine. Fuller bodied with citrus and slate. Long finish that seemed lightly oxidative. Definitely Trocken.

Nov 5th, 2020Clean, Cristalclear and Precise.
Peat, resin, reine claude plums, chalk, lemonpreserve, yeast, tripel ale, iodine, old foudres, hyacinth... I could go on and on.
Very elegant and complex. Thirstquenching yet cerebral.
A wonderful wine in a unique style that reminds me of Chablis from Raveneau.

Too early. Dense and rich, but so wrapped up that with my limited experience with Auslese trocken, it's hard hard for me to tell when or whether this will blossom to reveal more complexity.

Dec 17th, 2016A bummer. Very thin, flat and without any of the complexity I know from the KR Auslese R wines.

Sep 25th, 2015Bright golden yellow.
Salty smoky minerals, caramelized citrus, dry honey, old foudres, wet wool and an attractive mossy rainwater vibe that I like very much.
Although this regular Auslese trocken does not have the depth and complexity of the Reserve bottlings, it shows the trademark KR funk in spades.
Recommended!

This “normal” auslese is not far behind the R and RR. Crazy Rieslings!

Apr 20th, 2021You have to give credit where credit is due. Since Bernd left, KR has admittedly been in the shadow of it's past. But this 16' is proof that KR's back. Stronger than ever! Dominik and Franzi has nailed it. This is one of those "fuck me" wines. It shows Saumagen's hedonistic nature, although leashed by searing acidity and confounding weightlessness.
The minerality is overwhelming. You can smell it and taste nothing but it. Flowers, exotic fruits, and cream on the nose too. Lengthy delicate finish. If I had anything to complain, it would be that the weight almost entirely derives from phenolic grip atm. It needs time, lots of it to sing at its full potential.
NB: Had this twice this year. Next up - Auslese trocken R!
