Expressive nose of dark bramble fruit, some tyre hints, cinnamon. A bit rough on the finish (alcohol, some grippy tannins) but good overall.

Interesting wine from #southafricanwine #southafrica but #pinotage is an invader grape and it permiates through this blend too much in my opinion. And yet interesting invention and has freshness and texture

This is their entry level red and made to be an everyday wine. It drinks well early with a half-hour decant. 2017 is one of the better overall vintages on the Western Cape.
The nose shows dark expresso style fruits with a bit of rubber toy. Blackberries, dark cherries, blue fruits, strawberries & some plum notes and red & dark florals.
The body is full with grainy, cocoa dry tannins. Blackberries, dark cherries, blue fruits, strawberries, some plum notes and red & dark florals. Nice acidity and a round easy drinking finish.
Photos of; their tasting bar, concrete temp controlled open top fermenters (if they weren’t as deep as they are and contained temperature coils, you might think they are Lagares like they use in the Douro Valley), tasting room goodies and the mountain view outside their Cellar Door.

Mostly Pinotage with same Cab Sauv and Merlot. Tastes very unique... I’m interested to see how it will be day 2.

Red cranberry. All fruit and berries, earth and spice. The oak is integrated nicely. M acid, body and front tannin. Black cherry, plum, and chocolate. Needs a little time.

After that comes the weird vegetation that I always associate with S Africa: brambly, dirty fruit that just makes me think untrained bush vines combined with some stems in the crush (the alcohol pushes through a bit too). The palette displays that same smoked wood up front, with the brambled fruit to follow. Also notes of ink, earth and a funky spice I can’t quite nail down. It’s a different kind of experience, but worth trying for yourself. Definitely a food wine, and refined tannins for such a young wine.

Surprisingly Light bodied though with strong aromas of black fruit and a hint of chocolate to finish. Short+ finish.
