Musigny Grand Cru Pinot Noir

The 2000 Musigny pours a ruby color with a transparent core; medium viscosity with no staining of the tears. On the nose, this is an absolute smoke show with the most beautiful, delineated notes of fresh, ripe red fruits: strawberry, raspberry, licorice, red flowers, sous bois and gentle cool and warm spices. This beauty effortlessly dances across the palate, presenting dry with medium tannin and medium+ acid. Confirming the notes from the nose. The finish lasts an eternity. The texture is like finest mulberry silk. It’s weightless and yet, there was an undeniable richness. Utterly brilliant and for me, a core memory wine. Not that this comes as any surprise, but it was fabulous with the canard au vin rouge. Drink now through 2040.

A super pretty nose. Lifted cherry and violet. Gorgeously pretty and composed. Very pure and long. Fantastic. Of the musigny clearly the most approachable now

Light and bright. Translucent. So light and pretty. Cherry, roses, soft and pretty midpalate. So subtle and beguiling. Intense but light. So delicious. Wow.

Gorgeous floral bouquet features red roses, lilac, lavender and cherry blossoms above ripe red and black cherry, ripe raspberry, grilled watermelon and morels. Tart cherry palate dials into the silky groove suddenly, hinting at rose water, but resembling raspberries in a forest rain. Lightest cinnamon bark adds warmth, violet and hibiscus bites emerge, and the whole flaunts a long and sensuous length of shimmer that mystifies.

A gorgeous, expressive nose: strawberry, blackberry, bramble, violet. Intense perfume that is just spectacular. On the palate, sweet and deep and rich. Very pretty. Very good.

Oh what a fantastic 2011. It has none of the off-putting “greeness” of the vintage, and instead shows incredible fruit purity, depth and infinite complexity. Any green quality that is present is merely herbal tones that play in the background and just add to complexity. On the palate it is deep and intense but weightless at the same time. Stays with you forever. Gorgeous.
