Hofgut Falkenstein
Krettnacher Euchariusberg Kabinett Riesling
Mosel, Germany
Tonight I have opened the 2016 Hofgut Falkenstein Krettnacher Euchariusberg Riesling Kabinett. This is from the Mosel/Saar region of Germany with Alc. 8.5% vol.
On the nose there is apple, peach, pear, lime, petroleum, slate, steel and citrus blossom.
On the palate there is mango, green apple, white peach, wet slate, petroleum and a good minerality.
The wine is delicious and light to medium bodied with a racy medium to medium + acidity that leads into a medium + to long fruit filled finish. You can drink this all day long and it would be gone before you knew it. Please stay safe and enjoy your weekend. Nostrovia! 🍷🍷🍷🍷

deliciously sweet, but balanced with lovely backend acid.

Like huffing gasoline fumes! Just wonderful. Dazzling earthy/mineral component that balances beautifully with the RS. 8% abv. So pale!

This is almost as good as Egon for a sixth of the price. Fantastic stuff that is impossible to find.

First off, the confession: I love and embrace Hofgut Falkenstein with little reserve. They produce Rieslings of serious individual character and precision which are also tasty, approachable, absolutely brilliant with a range of dishes, and of tremendous, in some cases absurd value. This 2018 Krettnacher Euchariusberg kabinett—quite pointedly off-dry—was no deviation from the mean: stony and fresh with notes of ripe white peach, green apple, petrol, and rubber, it showed a sharp attack, ethereal mid-palate, and a fresh, sweet-leaning finish. I suspect these prices to catch up to other more widely-vaunted names.

This is everything I want in Riesling. Ripping acid, slate, stone fruit and yellow apple aplenty, and, to me, the perfect amount of RS to balance, without at all being sweet.
