On Friday we opened the 2019 Gaja Ca' Marcanda Magari Bordeaux Blend. From the Bolgheri region of Tuscany, Italy. A blend of 60% Cabernet Franc, 30% Cabernet Sauvignon and 10% Petit Verdot.

On the nose there is ripe fruit cherry, black raspberry, plum, black currant, licorice, spice and earth.

On the palate thereis cherry, black raspberry, plum, black currant, herbs, spice, licorice, graphite and earth.

This wine is medium to full bodied with a smooth silky mouthfeel medium +acidity and medium + plush rounded tannins that moves wonderfully into a long red & black fruit earthy finish. A beautiful wine that can be enjoyed now as we did or cellared for several more years. Enjoy your weekend and spend time with family and good friends. Please stay safe and healthy. Nostrovia! 🍷🍷🍷🍷

11/17/20 Tuesday night and to follow up on last night's Gaja Ca'Marcanda Promis I have opened the 2016 Ca' Marcanda Bolgheri Magari. A Super Tuscan blend of 60% Cabernet Franc, 30% Cabernet Sauvignon and 10% Petit Verdot.

On the nose there is black cherry, plum, black raspberry, strawberry, mint, bell pepper, mocha and crushed gravel.

On the palate there is black cherry, red plum, black currant, green bell pepper, cedar, herbs and an earthyness.

This wine is full bodied with a smooth velvety mouthfeel, medium + acidity and medium + smooth round tannins that leads to a long dark fruit finish. A beautiful expression of a complex super tuscan. Love the mouthfeel and the all around expression of this wine. Continue having a great week and do stay safe and healthy. Nostrovia! 🍷🍷🍷🍷🍷

A wonderful wine, powerful right after opening. Layers of red fruit and a strong dose of cassis. Absolutely love this wine. Long finish. Now I get the Bolgheri/SuperTuscan hype. Chose this wine for B50 9/1/19, and rating affirmed with a smile.

Sunday evening meal with my wife. I have the 2016 being better than this in my memory. Classic tuscan flavour profile but missing a bit of oomph to take it to the next level. Still extremely quaffable.
Served with braised short ribs and dumplings (10/10)

A lot to enjoy here. Evolved for its relative young age but potential to get better. Was much better than I thought it would be. Went excellently with calf and pomme puree!

Bolgheri and Gaja raise expectations. These are more than fullfilled with this blend of Merlot, Cabernet Franc and Cabernet Sauvignon. Ripe cherries and dark berries, some tobacco. Great wine!
