Bright red nose of strawberry and cherry, hint of mushroom. Where other 20+ yr beaucas have gone Burg on me this was luscious and rich, dark red plum jam, earthy and creamy compote. Old leather. Bottle went fast but hung in nicely… I just can’t say whether this will get better but with one last bottle I’m gonna wait and see cuz I love how these evolve.

Sweet tobacco, chocolate, brown bread and black, plum, raspberry and blackberry, blueberry, black olive tapenade, sweet black jellybean, oak dust, and vanilla bean. Charred and tarry earth, dark leather, fire scorched clay, cinnamon, burnt brown sugar, graphite, smoke, dark, tart cherry, black olive, savory, brittle, and scorched nettle. Elegant mouthfeel and brooding complexity. Like a blackened aged steak. Really provocative!

I was expecting more brett, which in old Beaucastel, I don’t mind at all. Clean, relatively fresh, and singing a surprisingly light and airy song, for Chateauneuf.

Cherry/strawberry fruit, crushed rocks, herbal, earth, incense and great acid. Will age very well.

While the 09 from 375ml is outstanding, the Prime Rib is like you dream about. The end cut has such flavor & complexity while the center cut is seriously savory & complex.

The 09 out of 375 is juicy, delicious complexity.

The Prime Rib 10+.

Decanted for 90 min, after its reticent and tightly coiled initial taste. Near peak but with the stuffing to hold for at least 5 more years, dried black and red fruits, worn leather, animale, rosemary. Very good depth and complexity. Persistent finish. Beaucastel always a pleasure and with minimal price inflation, it’s almost a value wine now.
