Château Branon
Pessac-Léognan Red Bordeaux Blend

2009. Fresh from my COMA (can’t opine much anymore), I am greeted by the opulence of sauce Périgueux over smoked applewood bacon wrapped top sirloin. Four black truffles gave themselves to the dicing knives to achieve the feat. Purple Black and cloaked in sooty tar. Rings of pipe tobacco brooding. An olfactory, fungal, tor impudicus waving its spongey menace. Candied currants, bursting blackberry, dessicate plum, and dark earth beneath the litter of the fall. Braised offal. Coffee rye. Tart and black cherry punctuate the entry of swift and silken shadow overwhelming palate. One’s heart is black but this is blacker. Baked blackberry jus.

Drank 10/8/22
50% merlot, 25% cab sauv, 25% cab franc.
Cigar box, plum, toasted cedar, and some baking spice dominate the nose. Plum sauce, blackberry, spice, black Forrest cake and cofee bean are backed by firm, but well integrated tannins. Finish goes on for about 50 seconds.
A beautiful wine that Paired nicely with a new york strip with a balsamic glaze. Wish I had more. Drink now and for the next 5 -10 years.
4/22/9/4/4 + 50 = 93 pts.

A blend of 50% Merlot, 25% Cab Franc & 25% Cab Sauv, aged in 100% new oak, deep Ruby with aromas of dark fruits, sweet oak and spice. On the palate flavors of blackberry and plum with sticky cacao and woodsy spice. Big firm grippy tannins, medium+ finish ending with notes of tar and tobacco on a tight finish. Needs time in the bottle. Tasting Sample!

Gift from Jack D. Nailed it! Agree with previous reviews. Very complex, tannins well integrated. So good. Everything I love in a left bank Bordeaux/Pessac-Léognan.

Jan 16th, 2025Decanted and tasted over 4 hours. The tannins and acidics seemed balanced with the fruit initially but the fruit didn’t stand up. The tastes are dark berries and graphite but one dimensional. I doubt this will get more interesting with more cellaring but it will last. I wouldn’t serve it for guests but nice for a weeknight treat with a steak and salad.
