Night 1 of WineBoyz Wineapalooza. Medium gold color, with oxidative nose. Notes of citrus, bread, green apples, some white stone. Great structure. Long finish. Really nice. Probably needs to be consumed sooner rather than later.

Christmas lunch date at V. Mertz. Disgorged January 2013. No formal notes. Rich in style with bruised apple, brioche, honey and some nutty, oxidative notes too. Zippy acid still. A truly wonderful way to close out the meal.

2021 Independence Day Party 🇺🇲 🥳 with several members of our Tastevin crew and extended friends.🍷 Proof that our palates are wider than Burgundy, outside of sanctioned events.🍾 Notes may be light, scores will be honest. 💯

Nuts, almonds, chocolate, bakery, butter-fried chantrelles; but with a distinct mousse and all the apples, citrus and oompf from the youth: close to my preferred peak.

The 2012 ‘La Grand Annee’ is a seriously good wine that has massive cellaring potential. Marzipan with hints of nutmeg and brioche offer their place on the bouquet. The silky mousse really entices as layers of kumquat zest and Challah bread collide with minerals, smoke and lovely green apple tones on the palate. The length and elegance of this wine is really great, as is the lovely sense of texture. Long and generous, this has the richness and laser-like minerality to cellar well for decades to come. Drink 2020-2035- 94

Wednesday Wine Committee from this past week. A fantastic hosting by @joe leatherwood . 1 sparkler, 2 whites, 5 reds, 1 dessert wine. All tasted blind as usual.

Sporting a classic Bollinger style, I have to admit that this has changed/evolved since I first had this vintage a year ago. A good bit of ginger is present in a rich and giving profile, with chalk, limestone, orange blossom and caramel dipped golden delicious apple. What made this different is I got a lot less yeast than expected. Truly delicious champagne now, it’s evolving and will be getting better. I called this NV champagne from a high end producer.

Pleasant lemon meringue core...supported by toasted brioche, pear and really nice mineral/acidity. A great bottle for 5th anniversary dinner.
