Château Mouton Rothschild

Pauillac Red Bordeaux Blend 1986

Alex Lallos
9.5

While still quite beautiful it doesn’t possess the color, intensity or complexity it once had. Honestly a bit muted but opens up nicely. I feel like the 82 is still steaming along and the 86 just isn’t quite what it used to be. Nevertheless, it’s a damn good wine to be sure — a month ago

Interesting. Had the 1985, 1986 and 1988 all in the last year and the ‘86 was a monster of wine and so youthful.

@Shay A honestly compared to 85 / 88 I bet 86 did come across as a monster but we opened a few bottles of 86 and I just felt like something was lacking compared to last time I had it

Château Margaux

Premier Grand Cru Classé Margaux Red Bordeaux Blend 1982

What a treat for sure! This 1982 Premier Grand Cru, 1st growth Chateau-Margaux is a beautiful medium red ruby with a good amount of bricking. On the nose: Red fruits and sweet age perfume jump from the glass followed by scents of tobacco, crème brûlée, and mint-mushroom! Old Bordeaux flavors do not disappoint: a soft and velvety feel, red fruits continue to standout although more subtle than the nose with cedar and smoked meat notes followed by a long tobacco-espresso finish. — a month ago

A delightful drop, drinking beautifully now. Gorgeous nose, perfect amount of spice and berry with a brighter palette. — a month ago

The Prisoner Wine Company

The Prisoner Cabernet Sauvignon 2019

You know how they say: “certain bottles speak to you?” Well, this one just did, for metaphorical reasons, of course… Like a message in a bottle! Unto reality this is a very approachable, balanced, slight fruity, tannic, Napa Cab with signature acidity and a long finish. Better than expected, and sum. Cheers. — a month ago

Caymus Vineyards

Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon 2020

Took to a dinner party and it was a hit! Big, dark, rich and even young it was ready to drink. Open and enjoy! — a month ago

Château Musar

Bekaa Valley Red Blend 2004

Just wow! Blown away by this one. New private wine bar in Dallas had this on the list! Surprised to see this wine. The wine took some time to open up in the glass. I would have decanted this wine for hours if served at home, but not an option last night. Plenty of smiles as this evolved in the glass. Expressive nose, no tannins, nice acidity. Beautiful expressions of dark fruit peeking through, but not enough time to really shine. Still a fabulous bottle that I’m grateful I was able to enjoy with friends. — a month ago

I recommend a decant for at least a couple of hours (or more after testing). For some reason this wine takes time to express itself. Good luck!!

When these are on, they are excellent! What is the new wine bar in Dallas?

@Shay A 55 Seventy in Preston Center. Grand opening was last night. Wine bar and tasting room and storage. Park Cities in Preston Center. A friend of mine joined. I will go back. So fun. https://www.55seventy.com/

Dr. Bürklin-Wolf

Wachenheimer Rechbächel Riesling PC 2020

Morning decant. Huge salty attack on opening, wall of minerals, huge acid. Not at all impenetrable in its youth and actually quite satisfying at this stage. Racy salinity. Minerals. Hint of rubber. Fabulous. — a month ago

Mayacamas Vineyards

Napa Valley Merlot 2019

Black cherry, blackberry, and smoke with a surprising amount of tannin and good acidity. The 2019 is still slightly young and could use a bit more time to round out the tannins, but I enjoyed it overall. — a month ago

Enfield Wine Co.

Haynes Vineyard Syrah 2019

Nose is cranberry sauce, rhubarb pie, and cinnamon. Cranberry sauce on the palate along with cinnamon, clove, mulled red fruit, licorice, green pepper, and plum with hints of leather and cigar box. Medium tannins, medium alcohol, and high acid. — a month ago
