Saint Estephe

Inky black with cassis, black currant and blackberry. Black pepper and lavender with a whiff of smoke and graphite. Plum and vine charcoal give a softness to the tannin which is amazingly strong. Graphite shimmers through dark cocoa, cedar and pepper. Lovely and lively.

Tons to unwind here. Black and green olives, clay and uncooked peat, multi grain bread, pecan, black sesame, mushroom fricassee, grilled filet with beurre blanc and jus. Sage, mint, and tarragon. All cohesively woven together; immaculate. That’s just the nose. Graphite and oak pencil the initial signature, which delineates the oeuvre. The cherry life cycle, from underripe to dried expressed in black and red; still-grainy tannins supporting. Raspberry tart, briary berrries. Rooibos tea, cinnamon and clove. Impeccable.

2020 vintage. A blend of 61% Cabernet Sauvignon, 33% Merlot and equal parts of Cabernet Franc and Petit Verdot. Basile Tesseron has done a great job at this Cru Classé and this 2020 is the best I have ever tasted. Blackberries, cassis and flowers. Juicy and focused, with lots of charm in a solid ripe tannic structure. Lovely finish with retronasal black fruit and minerality.Abv. 13,5%. As the estate was bought by the Lorenzetti family (Pédesclaux) I expect the quality to rise further in the future, so this is definitely an estate to watch.

Vintage 1999 | deep colour 3/4 transparant with brown rim, earthy smell with dried forrest leaves, red cherries and a light truffle expression. Silky taste, no need to keep this wine that is á Point now. Lovely that the wine delivers. Paired with a shitake chestnut mushrooms toast, venison beef and a salad.

Nice aroma, subacid, a bit flabby.

Wow—extraordinary vintage, and peaking or just past peak here. Earthy, almost gamey white truffle / sanguine meat note cut by vibrant, sweet cassis and blackberry. Tannins and acidity dialed way back, with all savory, secondary notes on palate: underbrush, tobacco, leather, spice

This Chateau Lafon Rochet from the superb 2005 vintage is beaming with elegance, still a bit young, yet delicious, sublime and tempting.
My old tasting note stays firm as I go through the case, the nose is a bit restrained yet tempting and complex, notes of black currents, leather, earth, oak, dust and pepper. The body is full with round tannins and balancing acidity, the finish is long and chewy. I recommend a couple of hours decanting before enjoying at this early stage.
My score 91, drink to 2030

Notes of red cherries, dried forest leaves and minerals on the nose. On the palate tannins and acidity keep it alive, with aromas of juicy cherries and dried herbs.

Slapping prettying hard: big fruit, big depth and concentration, big tannin. Would be cool to revisit in 20-25.
