Wrattonbully Vineyards

Redman

Coonawarra Shiraz 2018

Probably a little more full bodied than the Wrattonbully Shiraz from Bellwether a few nights ago. It’s interesting that Shiraz was initially THE grape In Coonawarra back decades ago but now much better known for Cabernet Sauvignon. A whiff of vanilla oak together with black plum and dried meat/charcuterie notes on nose and palate. Great value at only $30 per bottle. Redman are one of the original producers In Coonawarra established in 1908. Bought at the Cellar door. — a year ago

Oldest in the Penfolds portfolio, Wine includes fruit from Barossa, McLaren Vale, Padthaway and Wrattonbully vineyards, aged in American oak. Deep Ruby with aromas of dark berry fruits and sweet spice. On the palate ripe blackberry, plum and cherry flavors with cacao, espresso and vanilla oak. Vivid acidity, rich ripe fine tannins, long finish ending with fruit and a bit of spice, very nice! Good value with aging potential. — a year ago

Tapanappa

Wratton Bully Whalebone Vineyard Merlot Cabernet Franc 2008

Warm vintage, soft ripe fruit. Presents as young but very approachable with soft tannins, with liquorice and dark fruit prominent and tannins sitting in the background. An intriguing contrast to the Man O’ War blend alongside it. Very easy to enjoy but perhaps some element missing at this stage. — 3 years ago
