This is a novel wine. It’s Red Muscat that is served chilled like a white wine. It is easily one of Italy’s most unique and greatest wines. It has the character of wines in other styles that cost thousands of dollars but because it’s such a freaky grape and made in a freaky style, (11.5% almost like a Kabinett Red Wine) it’s not that expensive. Still it’s great. Truly epic. Like a dessert at a 3 star Michelin that centers around some insane sauce. This is the vinous equivalent of that sauce. The nose is floral to a degree that using floral to describe any other wine is an insult to this wine. It’s minty and smells almost like an apothecary in God’s waiting room. It’s got roses. I mean in your face yet subtle and beautiful roses. There’s also fresh green shrubbery. Like walking into a freshly manicured British aristocrat’s family garden. There’s deep black cherry skins. It’s pungent and potent but also haunting and beautiful. The palate tho! They combo of fresh/sweet/ electric sweetness and a guided decadence. Perfect balance. Insanely pure. Willi Schaefer vibes here. Gorgeous sweet tannins and a deliciousness that is rare in this world. After air the nose has green and oolong tea aromas. Just a mesmerizing nose. Palate and nose are 50/50. This is not a perfect wine but it’s perfect for me. 9.7. — 6 years ago

What a nose. Chambolle like for sure. Layered, floral, bright, mid season cherries. Chestnut, old library books, so clean and so complex. A nose that elevates this wine to a Langhe like presence. Stunning. Some apothecary notes of mint, fennel and rosemary. Just gorgeous. Superbly complex. Elegant and juicy with terrific mid season cherry fruit and lovely palate standing intensity. Velvety tannins but also some more tannin to burn and so amazing how long the fruit terroir finish is. Gorgeous. — 6 years ago
Grassy and hint of goat cheese, crottin? Crazy texture and such purity. What flavors. Nose is herbal and complex and has a vast array, lavender and weird colored flowers. underarm, funk, cheese, smells like a something from the pfalz, oh my god the acid in this is bracing. Lemony has soft texture. Engaging medicinal apothecary aromas. — 2 years ago
Wow. What a nose. So unique, so profound, so grassy, full of herbs, apothecary level. Stunning. It’s so dense and so complex that it’s dizzying. I’ve never ever smelled anything like this but where has this been all of life. Wow!! Genius. So layered, so floral, so perfumed. God’s apothecary. Beyond complex. Wow. Like the best fresh herbs one can imagine. Major rosemary. Wild mint. Sage. Just insanity. How does a wine smell like this? 9.8 nose. Wow! This is as Grand as it gets. Awesome, power, depth and concentration. Painfully young but so expansive. The palate really is similar to the nose. Herbal and apothecary like. Incredible inner mouth aromas. Huge depth. This needs so much air. It’s so sapid and so backwards. Finish is long and juicy and will fill out. My score will go much higher as that palate is a zygote.
9.5 to 9.6. Sizzling complexity and depth. Wow. Elegance has come on strong. Insanity. — 4 years ago
Smooth, easy, not too sweet. Reminds me of an apothecary blend. — 6 years ago
Piney, lactic, fresh berries, you can taste the Drouhin barrels. Amazing. — 6 years ago
Smells like an apothecary and finishes with black licorice. It’s goddamned tasty — 7 years ago
Light brick-tinted red color; although some of the fruit is warm and ripe, most of the nose is colder-climate styled with earth, herbs, pine tree, minerals and the pleasant smell of entering an old apothecary store; it is light in body with fine tannins, high acids, darker fruits and a long satisfying food-craving finish with some of the green notes from the nose lasting the longest. Well balanced and well made! — 8 years ago
Apothecary Dark blends bold layers of dark blueberry and blackberry with opulent notes of coffee and dark chocolate with a rich, smooth finish. — 3 years ago
Beautiful nose. Just so lifted and floral. Raspberry, black cherry, blueberry, pastille effect, herbal, an apothecary vibe in a medieval video game. Palate is lush and very 18. Soft and structured with black cherry and late season red cherries. Not showing much finesse yet but has great balance. Dynamite juiciness. Really engaging and fresh but still a little 18 itis. Ripe and juicy tannins with nice floral fruit notes. Let’s see where this goes.
This stayed the same and lost some focus. 18 Foillards mostly miss the mark — 5 years ago
Nose of intense alpine minerality. White flowers. Custard. Hint of medicinal quality. More like an apothecary. Not bad medicinal if that is not clear. Clean and way batter than my last bottle’s aromas. Palate is juicy and clean, long and tense. Really long. Terrific elegance and purity. Nice spice. Balanced and very pure. Exotic tropical fruits. @Delectable Wine this is roussanne not Jacquere. — 6 years ago
Incredible depth on the nose. Huge spice, almost a hint of chinato aromas. Rich, alluring, apothecary like. Huge black and mid season cherries. A freak show. Wow. Floral. Huge huge florals. So much. A true perfume. Palate is dense, juicy and so so fine. Incredible power and concentration. What density and purity. Awesome pinpoint tannins. So deep and elegant. This is Grand Cru Alto Piemonte. Big impressive structure and noble tannins. This wine is no joke. Complex and amazingly fresh. So so deep. What a long finish. 9.4 now but will see if it crosse: to 9.5 after air. — 6 years ago
Exuberant nose of roses, lavender, herbs, mid season cherries and an apothecary vibe. Gorgeous. Palate is very juicy with wonderful cherry fruit and classic burly vespolina tannins. Medium bodied and a nice substantial structure. Sappy and super pure. Wonderful. Lasting. Acid, freshness and energy on point. — 7 years ago

Her Mir Tage
Henry Jayer certainly live up to his name!
The wine possesses a profound, healing, oriental herbal bouquet. It's not like fresh mint or basil; it's more like opening a traditional apothecary cabinet filled with premium Chinese Angelica Root (Dāngguī), Astragalus (Huángqí), and dried lily bulbs, or walking through a damp forest after the rain, with scents of ginseng, licorice root, and dried citrus peel warming the air, all interwoven with the luxurious undertones of black truffle and moist earth. It's an aroma that evokes serenity, warmth, and nourishment.
Upon first opening, it presented an aroma of traditional Chinese herbs. After breathing in the glass for half an hour, the wine truly began to unfold, releasing intense notes of red fruits, woody fragrances, and those distinctive herbal nuances. The body is a remarkable fusion of elegance and power. Despite its age, the 1988 vintage retains a finely structured and layered profile, with a clean palate and velvety, silky-smooth tannins. The finish is exceptionally long, evoking the delicate scent of morning dew on bamboo leaves. Overall, it’s an utterly captivating wine that leaves one truly enchanted.
