Old friend, appreciate the slight funk amidst all that lovely fruit-have mistaken in past for a cab franc when tasted blind. — 8 years ago

Rosado Ribera del Duero Tempranillo 2013

Rose that drinks like red wine. This has a fair amount of tannins, and it's a rose! — 9 years ago

Viña Sastre Crianza Ribera del Duero Tempranillo 2019

Delectable Wine
9.1

The 2019 Crianza is made with Tempranillo grapes from a vineyard planted in 1960 in La Horra, Ribera del Duero and was aged in barrels for up to a year. A dark garnet-red in the glass. Presents sour cherry and strawberry jam, vanilla and smoke aromas on the nose. The palate is dry and velvety with polished tannins and well-balanced acidity that lead to a pleasant, savory finish. Reserva Pagos Viejos Ribera del Duero Tempranillo Blend 2017

Let’s talk about VIÑA SASTRE!

This is a family-owned and -operated winery (since 1992) from Ribera del Duero DO, located in the broader Castilla y León region of Spain.

Ribera del Duero is highly regarded for having many old vines (50-100 yrs + in age) and a quintessential “continental climate,” with extremely cold winters and hot summers, vineyards planted at high altitudes (a plateau called the Meseta Central), and thus a large diurnal range…

All of these factors help enable the production of highly structured and age-worthy wines (with deep concentration, tannins, alcohol, acidity). This wine is no exception!

It’s a deep ruby wine with medium (+) intensity in aromas / flavors including ripe red and black currant, blackberry, black cherry, red plum, violets, tobacco, nutmeg, clove, pencil shavings, coconut, vanilla, cocoa nibs, and mocha notes.

On the palate, it’s dry, with medium(+) acidity, a full body, high alcohol, and medium(+) tannins that are fine-grained, with a long, elegant finish.

Cheers to delicious wines that offer a sense of place!

I used to drink the wines from Viña Sastre 15+ years ago…and then they disappeared from the State and I lost track. I really enjoyed them back then.
