I have not had in 6 years. Nose is gorgeous and brambly with huge sous bois, tiny whiff of oak, stunning spice and stoned along with some nice florals. Palate is a bit closed but super silky and not “tannin closed” like it was 6 years ago. Unreal fruit clarity and length. Air will help but great guts so far. Really classed up overnight. 9.5 to 9.6. So elegant and deep. Insanely clear fruit. — 3 months ago
Needed 1 hour last night then it got reductive. But today oh man! Nose is glorious red fruits, granite, herbs and flowers. Clay, iron ore. Some blackberry as well. palate is raw and feral with blood, guts and meat. Concentrated and linear. Unreal texture and finish but needs a decade. — 7 months ago
Brilliant showing. So much energy and unreal inner mouth perfume. Nose is all roses and tar. Cherries will develop. Drinking perfectly. Huge concentration and depth. Awesome mid season cherry fruit and a terrific finish. — 20 days ago
Oh man this is so good. On one of the final frigid nights of this year this is so hitting the spot. Young but so deep, so dark, so structured and so good. Insane nose. More details later. The opulence is unreal. Huge tannins and structure to go fifty. This is giving 47 Cheval Blanc. Oh. My. Fuck. What a palate. So rich, so much energy, black fruits, opulent. Just crazy. Old vines are strutting. 1884 or 1885. Just the sickest, purest black fruit ever. Same thing when tasting Desestret’s barrel of 140 year old Syrah. Black but opulent and refined. Same thing here. Palate is stoney and velvety wirh some thick blackberry and black current fruit. Unreal tannins on the finish. Nose is a drug now. 9.9. Outrageously black fruited, maybe even the most restrained anise ever. Deep, inner earth, minerality. Man. — 2 months ago

One of the best Girard 23’s. First time since April and it’s just as I remember. What a wine. Lush, giving cherry nose that just exudes purity and generousness. So inviting. Palate is lush and generous with unreal fruit. Black cherry, red cherry, blackberry. So dense, so explosive and fresh. Gorgeous, diamond cut tannins. Unreal wine. Wow. — 5 months ago

Showing so well. Unreal nose of black cherry and black raspberry. Plus a lipstick like intensity. Palate has tons of sweet cherry fruit and an earthy baseline. Terrific inner mouth aromas and velvety, sweet but substantial tannins. Now some lovely Volnay finesse coming through. Score may go higher. — 3 months ago

Nose is stunning, baby Chassagne 1er Cru all the way: green apple skin, green apple flesh, white flowers, lime zest, lime flesh, and that clean Burgundian mineral snap. Palate is unreal: concentrated, savory, juicy, nimble, elegant, pure, bright, and mouthwatering. A little savory pull on the finish, with terrific length and energy. This is Chassagne Premier Cru quality, and I will die on that hill. After a few hours the finesse is off the charts. Stunning wine. 9.5 to 9.6. — 14 days ago
