Unearthed too quickly. Didn’t realize it was a 2019 😅. You could certainly sense it has lots of potential but it just didn’t come out of its shell. Dark red flavors of pie cherries and pomegranate, fine grained tannins. Too young, too tight, too impatient 😁. — 5 years ago
2014 Brocard Chablis & Ayalew Mesfin. Unearthed politically charged Ethiopian funk courtesy of Now-Again Records and vinyl me please . Wine is crisp & bright. Music is revelatory considering this is the first anthology of his work with his involvement. Will actually pair with most wines on both weekends and weeknights. — 8 years ago
2006 Shiraz Cabernet merlot blend purchased on a Coonawarra wine tour in 2009 and unearthed last night. Cherries pepper spice vanilla ... aaah the Coonawarra !! — 10 years ago
I chose this Patagonian red while walking home, only to realize that I was up to episode 3 of Chef's Table with Patagonian based chef, Francis Mallman. A beautiful coincidence and a delicious drop indeed. Smokey, cherry and blueberry flavors with a touch of lavender on the end.
Fun facts:
The Saurus wines take their name from a very unusual, but important discovery. When the Familia Schroeder winery was being constructed on the vast plains of Patagonia, the fossilized remains of a Titanosaur were unearthed. This dinosaur roamed the area millions of years ago and was one of the biggest species ever known. In honor of this amazing discovery, the family built a special cellar in which to display the bones to the winery's visitors. They were also inspired to create the Saurus line of wines. — 10 years ago
just as the 2006 sold out, Laina unearthed a small stash of the 2005 at the winery and carried it into the tasting room. Rich, fresh, expansive, & enduring in the long palate. Highly recommended, & very little left. — 11 years ago

Another gem unearthed from the cellar. — 5 years ago
Risky click of the day! 17 years of age and yet absent of the stench on unearthed skin. Not the most delightfully petrol forward and yet not cloying either. And chayp! — 6 years ago

Unearthed this from an old wine.woot shipment. A real beauty. — 9 years ago
I love it when an 11YO 375ml bottle unearthed in the cellar tastes really good. Earth/fruit thing nailed. — 11 years ago
Sometimes you nose a wine and wonder, where do I start? So it is with the 2018 Montepulciano d'Abruzzo. Crushed ashen stones, like something unearthed from the gut of a volcano, evolve into notes of curry leaf, balsam herbs, sweet tobacco, licorice and, finally, dried black cherries. This gentle giant coasts along the palate with soft textural waves of mineral-tinged red and black fruits, yet beneath it all is an energizing core of strict acidity. Its tannins are present, yet they are sweet and nearly masked by the primary concentration within. The 2018 finishes long and perfumed with a tug of tart wild berries that resonates. While the 2018 will be an earlier maturing vintage of Amorotti Montepulciano, it should not be missed. (Eric Guido, Vinous, October 2022)

A dice-roll bottle from an unearthed value case in a clients cellar. Super sappy, inky black, with lively acid and silty tannins. Grilled strawberry, braised plum and fig reduction, tiniest touch of duck sauce VA. Cigar ash, dried red chiles. Really enjoyed! — 5 years ago
100% Syrah
Brownish, bricked, garnet. Semi transparent. Widened rim.
Superbly perfumed aromas of savory dark fruits - old leather, black pepper, dried rose petal, grilled teriyaki-marinated meat.
Not entirely completely resolved with some tannic structure lingering on. Red cherry, dried plum and blackberry. Lovely secondary characters firmly established with gamey profile, and ashy spices.
This is an absolute classic of a gem unearthed from the depth of the rather lengthy wine list at Sparks Steakhouse in Midtown East, NYC. 91. — 9 years ago
Really great for the price. Fruit forward. Not dry. — 10 years ago
Surprisingly rich and earthy after tasting a lot of their rhone style wines from the rocks. A little air opened it beautifully, balanced the acid and tannin and unearthed the floral qualities. Great wine. — 10 years ago
Sourced from 100% 45-year-old Gamay Noir vines grown in granitic sand, hence the name, this unique sparkling rosé walks a very fine line between funk and fruit. Ripe strawberries and plump market raspberries are unearthed, once one gets past damp spring soil, that walk through the barn in sodden boots (and yes, I had a barn with animals, I know it well). Given that, its unusual countenance is a welcome break. It's more classically styled and delicate on the palate and a very nice companion to charcuterie. It's well worth mentioning that this was tasted at Bar Avignon, a wine bar in Portland, Oregon that I highly recommend. — 11 years ago
1992 was a pretty wet year out here which meant much higher acids. My wife's older brother worked the vineyards at Lieb in his high school days. Somehow he procured this bottle and squirreled it into his closet where it would sit until his father unearthed it 20 years later. That acidity has given way to beautiful flower notes and flavors that barely show its true age. — 13 years ago

Unearthed a gem, found a dusty bottle in the corner and took a shot - $22 and it was fantastic! Looked inky like a current vintage, copious amount of pure ripe black & blue fruit, so gobs but also earthy like freshly turned soil, spice, clay & loam, some dustiness which blew off. Polished on palate, tons of fruit but not flabby and really well integrated tannins. Pedigree here and a real treat. Going back and grabbing any other bottles I can find — a year ago
