Bodega Familia Schroeder
Saurus Patagonia Pinot Noir
I chose this Patagonian red while walking home, only to realize that I was up to episode 3 of Chef's Table with Patagonian based chef, Francis Mallman. A beautiful coincidence and a delicious drop indeed. Smokey, cherry and blueberry flavors with a touch of lavender on the end.
Fun facts:
The Saurus wines take their name from a very unusual, but important discovery. When the Familia Schroeder winery was being constructed on the vast plains of Patagonia, the fossilized remains of a Titanosaur were unearthed. This dinosaur roamed the area millions of years ago and was one of the biggest species ever known. In honor of this amazing discovery, the family built a special cellar in which to display the bones to the winery's visitors. They were also inspired to create the Saurus line of wines.
