Tinto De Toro

Toro Tinta de Toro 2015

Dark Ruby with red fruit aromas, blossom and earthy spice. On the palate ripe cherry and raspberry flavors, smooth fine tannins with balanced acidity, medium+ ending with smoky earthy tones. Good value. Tasting Sample.

In mine opinion the best of the three bottle line up. Balanced, powerfull but also elegant — a month ago

Viña San Román Toro Tempranillo 2012

Nice acidity to counter the good extraction from the grapes. Still oaky. Pencil shavings, loads of fruit...nice length...needs food — 20 days ago

Castrillo de Duero Tinto Tempranillo

Definitely have been on a Tempranillo Journey lately and this grape has a lot to offer. This was a well made Tempranillo. Plums, mix of red and dark cherries, raspberries and hints of chocolate. Youthful tannin that should integrate well in the future. Would store for a few years before re-exploring.

Termes Toro Tinto de Toro 2003

We recently pulled some cases out of storage, which haven't seen the light of day for nearly 15 years, so I'll have some fun posts in the next several months.

Nose has dried blackberry, dried raspberry, ripe blackberry, ripe black cherry, dry oak plank, violets, old roses, medium-roast coffee beans and old milk chocolate bar.

Palate has ripe black cherry, ripe red currant, dried apricot, dried raspberry, ripe blackberry, moist soil, juiced peach, still chewy tannins with coffee and semi-sweet chocolate on the medium-long finish.

Decanted 2+ hours, pop & short decant for sediment on future bottles.

This bottle is in a great spot this evening, still many enjoyable years ahead. Future bottles may be 2023+ in proper storage, and yeah we have more. 😁

Geez, how many wines get ‘lost’ in your cellar?@Severn Goodwin

@Peter Sultan Too many sometimes, these have been hanging out in CT storage for a long time. I have faith that many of the wines we bought in our 'youth' were good candidates for forgetting about for a while. Our buying strategy is different now, but I still enjoy these types of wine.

Prunus(PT) Private Selection Tinto

Vintage 2016 / Dão. 80% Jaen 10% Tinta Roriz 5% Alfrocheiro and even 5% others. Smoooooth! Great weekday wine with fine red summerfruit. Not complicated. Comforting. When you do not want to think about the wine in your glass, but only enjoy it. Bargainprice. — 10 days ago

Teso La Monja Alabaster Toro Tinto de Toro 2009

Bummer..... whilst we were thinking to get a final glass it was only the weight of the bottle in our hands......
It was empty too fast..... very very good glass of wine. Fruit, mocca, chocolate, integrated wood, very well balanced. Best to decant with a very fine sieve as it has a lot of fine sediment.

Numanthia Toro Tempranillo 2003

We recently pulled some cases out of storage, which haven't seen the light of day for nearly 15 years, so I'll have some fun posts in the next several months.

Nose has dry autumn leaves, ripe black cherry, dried tart cherry and a hint of coffee grounds.

Palate has ripe black cherry, dried blackberry, moist soil, mild tannins on the medium finish.

Decanted ~1.5 hours, heavy sediment in the bottle.

This bottle is in an interesting spot, either an off bottle or much too over the hill. We drank the 2003 Termes last night (the younger sibling) and it was much more enjoyable. Will save some for tomorrow to check for further development. We still have some chances at a good bottle of Numanthia, so hopefully the remaining bottles are a little more exciting.

24 Hour Update: A different wine today, ripe black cherry, ripe blackberry, dark chocolate, light baking spice, apparently it just needed loads of air after its very long slumber. Score update from 90 to 92 today, good juice.

2003 Termes was better than this one, and it cost about 30% less, go figure.

@Paul T- Huntington Beach It still can be, just needed loads of airing out, much better today. I have difficulty understanding if this really was a WS 95 point bottle, even close to release. I can't remember how it tasted 15 years when we bought them...

Unique and different than the norm! Scents of charred whiskey barrels and chocolate. Smokey notes with juicy cherry and mint. Interesting and flavorful though easy drinking. Great! — 2 days ago
