Tinto De Toro

Maquina & Tabla

— 21 days ago

Quinta das Maias

Vinho Tinto 2016

A very lively blackberry note coming from the nose and developing further on the palete. I'm also getting a bit of cedar and mintiness finishing with a spicy hot finish that really is quite nice. Only light tannin and the acidity is medium here, but the mouthfeel is substantial. I find that as I get more familiar with the native Portugese grapes, I think of them less as just components of port (which I'm far more familiar with) and more as components in these great table wines. This wine is labeled as organic as well. — 17 days ago

Bodegas y Viñedos Vega Sicilia

Alion Ribera del Duero Tinto Fino 2013

1991 inaugural vintage by famous Vega Sicilia estate. Tried the ‘13 a few times and it doesn’t disappoint. Ruby with an array of aromas, dark fruits, spice, floral and some oak. The palate shows strawberry, blackberry & plum flavors with hints of espresso and licorice surrounded with gentle oak. Tannins are firm and support the backbone of this tremendous wine. Well balance with acidity, full body, lingering finish ends with some fruit, oak, spice, and mineral character. Will benefit from more time! — 19 days ago

Bodegas y Viñedos Maurodos

Viña San Román Toro Tempranillo 2016

The 2016 Bodegas San Roman Toro follows the really impressive line of San Roman wines over the past decade. Needing a two hour decant to fully evolve, once on the nose you are impressed by the intensity of massive dark fruits but non-fruit aromatics of tar, sandalwood and leather that combine with shades of damp earth. The palate is plush, with silky tannins and toasty oak that are artfully woven into the core of blackberry cobbler, blueberry cordial, mocha, and creosote tones. Showing a great feeling of range, with vibrant acidity, a light dusting of salinity and excellent weight, the 2016 Bodegas San Roman Toro will enjoy an exceedingly long life ahead of it. Bodega del Palacio de los Frontaura y Victoria

Dominio de Valdelacasa Toro Tempranillo 2014

Someone else said—a helluva wine for the price. Brilliant on day two, Bordeaux-like, dark leathery undertones buttressed by sour cherry & acidity. Allspice, softened tannins, medium finish. Beautiful work. — 19 days ago

Concha y Toro

Private Reserve Don Melchor Puente Alto Vineyard Cabernet Sauvignon 2009

Found another one of these ‘09 beauties. Deep ruby with aromas of coffee and chocolate wrapped in dark fruits. On the palate well pronounced pleasant flavors of black fruits, blackberry and ripe cherry, cassis, espresso and bittersweet cacao. The wine had plenty of oak and well-structured tanins. This wine should continue to age well. WOW! — 8 days ago
