Gran Reserva de la Familia Brut Nature Cava Blend 2017

Made from Macabeu, Xarel·lo and Parellada grapes, bright pale gold color with a frothy creamy mousse, small rapid bubble flow with a steady stream. Aromas and flavors of apple and citrus with toasty notes, integrated, nice mouthfeel, elegant long finish. Great value as an exceptional alternative to French Champagne. — 2 years ago

Beautiful Generation Stags Leap District Cabernet Sauvignon 2012

In magnum..luv the foil cap..."it goes to eleven". 1 hour decant (little sediment). A transfixing inky red color. On the nose: blue fruit, floral, cassis, black fruit. Taste: BlackBerry, graphite, minerals, smoke..semi firm tannins and a plush mouthfeel lead to a med- long finish...has more time to go. From the Rock Block series..names diff blocks for his favorite songs or albums. — 7 years ago

Are you kidding me? Only $19. My only regret that I did not buy a case! No pesticides, true reflection of place. Wonderful minerality. Transport yourself to a cool mountain stream. Serve at 40-45°. A SommSelect choice. — 8 years ago

Blanc de Morgex et de la Salle Prié Blanc

Revisiting an old friend. From one of Europe’s highest vineyards. Pure, clean citrus fruit hits you right away like a freshly melted alpine stream in spring. As the bottle warms up, unexpected tropical notes emerge - coconut and pineapple (aka nuances of piña colada). — 10 months ago

Ampodium Côte-Rôtie Syrah 2015

Drinking beautifully with a Northern appellation feel to it, more Brune and schistous to me. Would love to know all the lieu dits that contribute and their proportion in the final blend. Its darken fruit profile, meaty/smokey and forest notes make the argument that it’s of northern origin. Its opening up for now there’s a rich stream of dark black fruits reminiscent of Black raspberry liquor, soaked plums, almost prune, and overripe black berry/cherry. There’s still freshness to the fruit however, nothing ox’d or decaying. Singed cedar, leather, ash, roasted meat and animal come next, followed by the garrigue and bacon fat. Threads of eastern spices and of course pepper. It elusive now, the aromas coming and going. Palate has some lovely richness and bones to accompany it well, never pushy, always with restraint and nerve. Reminds me of Barolo. Great “basic” cuvée for Rostaing this vintage. Day 2 this really got going, much more harmony and focus on the nose. Loads of bitter root and pastille notes developing among its dark content. Very delicious — 6 years ago

Enigmatic and just tremendous aromas. Ripe pear, lavender, mountain herbs, Bosc pear, apple skin, lovely nose. Mountain stream. So fresh, dynamic and pure. Palate is rich, ripe, opulent and concentrated with a whiplash of juicy fruit, herbs and insane acidity. Long, balanced and so pure. Shows ripeness of vintage with classic Altesse acidity, herbaciousness and freshness. — 7 years ago
