The Miner's Inch El Dorado Red Blend 2023

Starfield Vineyards The Miner's Inch 2023, El Dorado, California

Purplish in color with medium plus intensity.

Strong nose of red and blue fruits with light wood, mediterranean spices, earth, oregano, light vegetables, rhubarb and black pepper.

Medium plus in body with medium acidity.

Dry on the palate with black currants, plums, sweet cherries, earth, chocolates, tobacco leaf, herbs, light oak, black tea, vegetables and peppercorn.

Tangy on the finish with fine grained tannins.

This tasty red blend from California is complex and fruit forward, with enough earth notes to round it up.

Nicely balanced and easy drinking right out of the bottle, with a very interesting nose.

Showing nice complexity already, and enjoyable even by itself. Feels like a Cotes du Rhône red. Very interesting out of California.

Good right out of the bottle, and gets more complex after 30 minutes of airtime.

Good by itself or with food, and a good party wine too.

I gave it a light chill, and had it by the pool. Paired very nicely with my Italian Prosciutto and crackers.

A blend of 30% Grenache, 17% Aglianico, 14% petite Sirah, 14% Tempranillo, 9% Cinsault, 9% Mourvedre, 4% Roussanne and 3% Counoise. Aged in (23% new) French Oak barrels for 18 months. A small production of only 2,500 bottles.

14.2% alcohol by volume.

90 points.

Estate Grown El Dorado County Cinsaut

Bought at the winery in August. Light, but so fragrant and flavorful. Works beautifully with our Pollo alla Romana. Cinnamon-spiced berry juice and crushed rock on the nose. Broadly-flavored. Deep spiced berry juice that turns savory in the clingy finish. Great balance. Such a fun wine. — a year ago

@Tom Casagrande, sounds great, not familiar with this winery, what “hamlet” (😎) is it near?

Not sure of the “hamlet” but it’s on the eastern edge of Placerville. Beautiful setting!

Visited this winery in El Dorado in Aug. ‘24 and was very impressed with the wines across the board.

My personal favorite was the Jacks Are Wild red Rhone blend.

Jacks Are Wild El Dorado Petite Sirah Blend 2020

38% Petite Sirah, 24% Grenache, 15% Tempranillo, 14% Cinsault, and 9% Aglianico. Unusual! And delicious! Dark color, with a nose giving off a rich, pure melange of red and black berry scents, along earthy underbrush. Mouthfilling, with loads of dark berry and sandstoney earthy notes. Nice savory, minerally notes appear in the back half of the finish. The mouthfeel is a little tacky thanks to the Petite Sirah, but not overwhelmingly so. Nice balance at 14.6% alc. Wish I brought back more from our visit there last summer! — 5 months ago
