VO Amarone della Valpolicella Classico Corvina Blend 2004

A beautiful classic Amarone, and one of my favorites! VERY aromatic; tobacco, espresso, dried fruit and rosemary, and rose water on the nose, with a gorgeous spoonful of cherry cobbler, dried fig, vanilla spice, dried herbs, and a lingering spice on the finish. Drinks like an older vintage of Amarone used to with the rosemary notes, which is fantastic and unique for a very unique style of wine. — 6 years ago

Rouge de Gris Dundee Hills Pinot Gris 2015

Hard to find this one; my brother in Oregon snagged a bottle. Dedicated to Stanko Radikon and his son Sasa, who pioneered the extended skin contact production of “orange wines”. This is a red wine made with 100% Pinot Gris (Pinot Grigio). Purple red, yet very good clarity; reminds me of the look of cranberry juice, but a tad darker in hue. Spice, leather and cherry-prune notes in nose. Fruit leather, prune flavors, initially, moderate fine-grained skin tannin astringency, a floral-prune aftertaste that is most like a traditional Pinot Gris white wine. Later, vegetal (black olive?) flavors emerge. Mind-blowingly different. Took me a while to decide how much I liked it. I never anticipated an orange wine could be pushed to this extreme, especially with this varietal - boom! After 90 minutes, tannins smooth out and you get a soft fruity light red with subtle flavors. Sasa Radikon visited Amsterdam for a tasting of his wines. Since 2009 he makes these Pinot Grigio's, it's a personal project. Maceration for ten days in 3000 liter oak vessels & aged in even bigger (old) barrels of 3500 liter for 18 months. A wine of fantastic texture, complex taste, and never-ending finish. And the colour is fantastic too! It shows the true tint of Pinot Grigio: somewhere in between white and red. Great wine. Great tasting! Thank you @Sasa Radikon! — 7 years ago
