Silent Noise

Domaine du Comte Liger-Belair

Les Chaumes Vosne-Romanée 1er Cru Pinot Noir 2007

A great noise. Really poised vine fruit with spice, poached pear. Sweet plum and black cherry. Violets and some spice. Very classy. More exciting on the nose than the palate — 7 months ago

Accornero

Bricco del Bosco Grignolino Monferrato Casalese 2018

A grape from Piemonte I didn’t know, apparantly lost but coming up again due to the younger generation winemakers. I’m in! Transparant in colour, gamay like taste and very light on it’s feet. But it’s a silent killer with it’s 14,5%. Very pleasant surprise! — 5 years ago

Glen Mhor

Silent Gordon & MacPhail 38 Year Old Single Malt Whiskey

Unlike last night this is all tongue and no bite in the cheeks. Rich in flavor as expected from the age and color. Silent referring if I recall correctly to the fact that it is closed. Don’t think it ever produced a single malt and was part of blends back in the day. ABV 40% — 2 years ago

Evidently there were some distillery bottlings but mainly part of blends or sold to independent’s as in this case. - Ownership of Glen Mhor and Glen Albyn was transferred to Distillers Company Ltd (DCL, later Diageo)in 1972 by John Birnie's son William, but sadly the distillery was deemed to be insufficiently profitable when DCL needed to make cuts in the slump of the early 1980s, and both distilleries were closed. Glen Mhor was dismantled in 1986 and demolished in 1988. The site has now been developed into shops.
Glen Mhor's house style is described in Michael Jackson's Malt Whisky Companion as 'Aromatic, treacly. Quite sweet. With dessert or after dinner.' Some malt was released as a distillery bottling, although most of the output went to blenders. There are still some independent bottlings available.
