I owe my love of Sonoma Pinot to Sean Capiaux. In evaluating this bottle, if I set those sentiments aside, I’m still hit by the excellence of Gap’s Crown. This is a big wine, no doubt, but it’s grace that first comes to mind. The fruit’s ripeness is balanced with shocking depth, nose to tail. Candied red fruits, blue fruits, and smoke, oversimplify a melange of fruit and umami. ABV is the one flaw, for me. It’s hot. — 8 years ago
Opened and decanted about two hours prior to service. No formal notes due to the setting but this was phenomenal; showing much younger than its age would suggest. The color was still ruddy and while it was vinous, it had lovely fruit and structure. Still identifiable as Merlot despite its age. Dreamy stuff by one of the true icons of California wine counter-culture. Drink now. — 5 months ago

Amazing to drink this wine 12 years after helping the master Sean Capiaux make it! Still young and intense, great concentration, long finish. Inky soy sauce and still full of raspberry and blueberry fruit... — 7 years ago

A really nice red blend. A great "go to" especially as the weather warms. Nice for grilled meats outdoors or charcuterie. It's an unusual blend with real depth. — 4 months ago
