Gorgeous. Sweet‘n‘sour love. — 6 years ago
Mid Lemon in colour. Quite a complex yet correct modern Chardonnay showing grapefruit and nuts. This ticks all the boxes and punches above its weight for $40. Shows again how the Adelaide Hills is an excellent district for Chardonnay. I hope the recent bushfires up there have not been too damaging @Scott Rowe Named in honour of Max Schubert who was Penfolds winemaker from 1948 to 1975 and the creator of Grange. — 6 years ago

BR was only off by a decade in this blind, which is both a testament to her blind-tasting acumen and the producer's greatness. She thought it was an 05' which given how young this was looking, was a forgivable mistake. The producer was an easy one - that unmistakable green tea aroma with streaks of white flowers, kaffir lime, and anise was just so Grunhaus. How she figured out it was from Abtsberg still baffles me, but I guess it was really just a 50/50 shot once the producer was established. Finally the lightness and dry linear finish placed it right in the Kabinett Trocken territory. Bravo, BR! As for me, the wine was just too digestible to have warranted any thought when drinking - disappeared over lunch with a good half of the effort contributed by yours truly. — 4 years ago
I have a special love for penfolds! This has so much aging potential , definitely will buy another bottle and save it for the next five years to drink
Dark red !! fine and well balanced tannins. Cranberry, plums, peppery, with a long earthy taste at the end
Plus the bottle design was cool! — 6 years ago
Straw hues; bouquet of white flowers, notes of honey, mango, and dried apricot on the nose; palate is moderated with lively acidity and delicate pear notes. Subtle effervescence. #mosel #germanwines #rieslingfix #maximingrünhauser #vdp #vonschubert — 7 years ago

Oh boy...that’s how a like a ripe Riesling! Acid still strong, sweet hints of age. — 7 years ago
A great value buy from GL at $13 bin end sale. Previous bottle was great. This one accidently frozen for 4 hrs couple weeks ago when forgotten in freezer for BYOW dinner, then thawed. Opened 9/9/18. Acidic and minerals on palate after impression of rocks and stone fruits and lemon on nose. Long acidic finish. Great with shrimp and should be for seafoods and others. Too bad likely last bottle. — 8 years ago

Lime and green apples on the nose. Sweet, fresh and concentrated. A bit to sweet for my taste. Not a huge fan of spatlese. — 7 years ago
The condition of the bottle was remarkable - the wine was fresh and crisp, like the day it was bottled. Bright with a tinge of green, no signs of TDN at all. Only the mellowed acidity gave any indication of age. Insane!
Despite all that, the wine itself was rather disappointing. Not really complex or deep, and finish was quite short. I guess it did come from a tough vintage. However, it had the classic Grunhaus lightness - drinking more like a kabi than spat. In conclusion, an easy fun drink that fell below expectations. — 7 years ago
Nice wine. A bit more powerful of a style. Bottled just a few weeks ago - quite fresh. Finish was a bit thin at first but with some air firmed up and the acid made itself know. Mouth filling with good fruit and acidity, and a bit of earth. — 8 years ago
