Cuvée Royal St. Robert Sonoma Coast Pinot Noir 2016

The 2016 'Royal St. Robert' is a gorgeous wine from Carlo and Dante Mondavi which is a dedication to their grandfather, Robert Mondavi. The Pinot Noir is 80% whole cluster with native fermentation and aged in a combination of 10% new, four-year air-dried French oak and 90% neutral French oak barrels before being bottled without fining or filtration. The wine itself is absolutely gorgeous as it begins with aromas of ripe strawberries and raspberries along with floral, spices, wet stones, blood orange and hints of tea leaf nuances all taking shape. This continues to impress with its fabulous medium body and beautiful fine, delicate tannins. Balanced and focused, this remains remarkably pure and persice though the silky finish. Overall, this is a fantastic wine which is already drinking remarkably well, but should also continue to develop with time. — 7 days ago

John Robert Eppler (JRE Wines)

Diamond Mountain District Cabernet Sauvignon 2010

Has been 3 years since I opened one of these and this is really coming into a nice spot right now. This wine is dark, deep, and full bodied. Black cork with tartrate on every square mm. Poured black, inky to the glass. Nose of spice cookie, cinnamon, nutmeg, blackberry cassis. Entry mimicked the same with a graphite and shale note to the middle. This wine finished with good acidity, softened but toasted cedar tannins. Now wishing that I had kept this one another year or two, but drinking at the very top of the hill right now in my opinion. I think this one will have another 5-7 years before it needs to be consumed, but I'd say that if you want to be treated, open this now! — 13 days ago

To Kalon Oakville Cabernet Sauvignon 2011

Spectacular Cabernet Sauvignon from a reputable vineyard in Napa. If you believe in terroir, this is the cream of the crop in Napa. Extremely well balanced. Good fruit, nice tannic backbone. This is a great vintage for this wine, drink now! — 8 days ago

Les Suchots Vosne-Romanée 1er Cru Pinot Noir 1995

Tawny purple, opaque. With 3 hours of air the nose blossomed and exhibited the grace and power of a great Vosne. Notes of black cherries, Asian spice, some menthol, dark moist black soil, some sandalwood and a little rose petal. This powered up with air and showed its stuff over several hours of consumption. Great wine. — 6 days ago

Reserve Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon 1994

Reddish tawny with amber rims. Fruity, floral nose. Notes of black cherries, blueberries, some subtle wood, mocha, violets and a little red licorice. Nice balance and texture in the mouth. Still has some pucker. Showing nicely at age 25. — a day ago

Amalie Robert

Amalie's Cuvée Oregon Pinot Noir 2007

A really impressive showing, a textbook and among the best aged new world Pinots I have ever had. It is a benchmark for willamette valley Pinot and a screaming application for the mount pisgah ava

Fresh, lifted, energetic. Evocative nose with fresh black and some red cherry, florals (lavender with some rose I think) cinnamon, that Dr Pepper thing, forest floor, freshly filled soil Also some notes of mushroom, leather, roibos tea, and exotic Asian spices But the power of this wine is In the texture and structure, which is world class. Dramatic tension, full mouthfeel, the slight graininess of an well built unfiltered wine - more clean water form a sendimentary river than any real sense of true sediment; vivid acidity that refreshed but also commands attention. In that way reminds me of a chambolle. I am floored. Maybe not the endless layers of flavors. But still Grand cru stuff. Not going anywhere. Not right to say this is or has peaked. This wine has come of age rather than peaked

From Larry Frierson’s cellar. Plum, black cherry with earthy notes. Tremendous length with sweet tannins, which this vineyard is known for. A wow wine! — 10 days ago
