Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon 2014

Ripe red and black fruit, cedar, somewhat chewy tannins, a little eucalyptus on the lengthy finish. Very good Napa cab. — 2 months ago

Oakville Cabernet Sauvignon 2014

Prior vintages are excellent. This just breaks average. Good texture. Medium body and weight. Underripe tannins complimented by bright acidity. Should further improve with time. — a day ago

No @David T. Normally, this bottling excels. Recent vintages have been poor. The 04, 05 and 07’s were strong out of the gate. I’m miffed...

Varozza Vineyard Zinfandel 2016

This historic Napa vineyard was first farmed by the Varozza family since 1913. The Zinfandel shows an intriguing translucence and starts off with cigar ash, cranberry, cherry, coffee ground and wild blackberry pie aromatics. The purity of fruit is stunning, as is the seamless texture, as milk chocolate, crushed mint, black cherry cordial and roasted date flavors all impress. This stunning bottling is truly one of the best in California. Drink 2019-2029- 95 — 4 days ago

Old Crane Ranch Zinfandel 2011

I’m not a big Zane fan, but I loved this wine. As compared to most Zins, it’s drier (not fruit forward) and has higher acidity. Everything in perfect balance and harmony — 2 days ago

Bob's Burn Pile Cabernet Sauvignon 2015

YOUTHFUL. Hedonistic fruit, but still locked up. Chalky youthful fruit. Finishes with a lot of acidity and a lot of youthful tannin. I think opening up one of these ultimately was a mistake, as this needs probably five years before it will show well. After two hours of air it did improve quite a bit. Shows the power that this well made cabernet from northern Alexander Valley can give you. A 20 year holder/ager without a doubt, should be packing a solid 1-2 punch in 5 years. But still a 93 with this impressive red fruit characteristic — a day ago

CHALKY. Very youthful. Little bit of underripe red and black fruit on the nose with fruitcake...aromatics here are really nice. The palate is very herbal and savory with unforgiving tannins and charcoal with graphite. My score here is mainly based on the aromatics as there just isn’t a lot of fruit on the palate...I think there is really solid potential here once you give it 5-7yrs!

I’m not a fan of chalk!

Les Vaucrains Nuits-Saint-Georges 1er Cru Pinot Noir 2006

A very respectable 2006 Nuits. In a perfect spot (for me). Showing a hint of funk and secondary notes but the fruit still very present. — an hour ago

Big Rock Block Cabernet Sauvignon 2012

It's amazing how much these wake up if you can just keep your hands off of them. And I still have one more left? Six years, this one is drinking WELL. After this one had been opened for two hours, the bouquet is deep black fruit, truffle, hint of green pepper. The entry is slightly acidic, but has softened somewhat. Fruit is luscious, combination of blackberry and black cherry with a truffle. Black licorice and herbaceous middle with a savory hint. Finishes still with quite a bit of tannin. Very nice. I'll try to hold my other bottle until after 2022, as this one is DEFINITELY still on the rise. — 13 days ago

Mueller 2015 Russian River Valley Pinot Noir. Near great as usual with a richness of flavor, deep fruit palate, supple balance and a bit more tannin than most Muellers from the RR Valley. Pro rating way off...this is another well-crafted Pinot from Mueller. — 7 days ago

Another long overdue thank you to Owner-Winemaker Robert Foley & GM-Truett Welch for Hosting us last November for our Winery Visit. Tasted through all current vintage portfolio offerings & enjoyed every wine. The 2014 Claret & 2014 Cabernet Sauvignon were in particular standout efforts; “Smokin Good”! Buy em’ if you can find em’!
