Rivers Marie

Silver Eagle Vineyard Pinot Noir 2017

This is a big wine. Although it does not have the luscious fruit characteristic of the 2015, it has arguably more brambly young acidic raspberry fruit in the front and middle. As close to full bodied as it gets. A little bit of mint in the middle. Finishes with some oak and baking spice. This is a bit closed off IMO and still think these will benefit from time in the bottle. Really nice but still think I'm in love with the 15 vs the 16 or 17. — 3 days ago

Jammy fruit but balanced - not decanted and good choice. Mid palate. — 9 days ago

Rivers-Marie Pinot Noir 2016

Sigh. These 2016 are not moving very far. They’re ok but the 2015 was so great that I’m always left s not disappointed. — 12 days ago

Lore Vineyard Cabernet Sauvignon 2015

Drinks really well at such a young age as do many of the 15’s. — 7 days ago

Joy Road Vineyard Chardonnay 2016

Sometimes I just don't understand these CT ratings. I don't know if it's political that certain wines get certain scores, or if people actually feel that way. In my opinion, this Chardonnay is worth at least two points from the average sub 90 rating. Popped and poured. Ample weight on the nose and on the front of this wine. Nose of kiwi, and hint of honeydew. The entry of this wine is way more potent. Peach, herbs, mango, medium-plus acidity. Really delightful. I think this wine will develop for another 5 years. — a month ago

Bearwallow Vineyard Pinot Noir

The darker side of Rivers Marie. Where all of the Occidental bottlings share red fruited characteristics this is more black fruits and fresh earth. The supporting acidity and the hours it still takes to open up give me hope that it should continue to develop in bottle. — 8 days ago

Occidental Ridge Vineyard Pinot Noir

Until last weekend, I had resisted the temptation to open any of the single vineyard pinots from Rivers Marie ever since joining the mailing list several years ago. Patience was rewarded. It was layered and complex with notes of strawberries, orange peel, earth, and more. Maybe a bit rich, but what a pleasure. — 15 days ago

Sonoma Coast Chardonnay

A steal at the $30 release price. Lemons and pears with almost a creme brûlée like finish. A favorite of mine this time of year. — 15 days ago
