Grower Collection Calesa Vineyard Five Blocks Petaluma Gap Chardonnay 2022

A superb aromatic 100% Chardonnay, the V. 2022 Grower Collection is entirely sourced from the Calesa Vineyard by the Petaluma Gap, situated in the coolest parts of Sonoma County where Chard ripens slowly, developing pure, vibrant flavors and ideal acidity. They grow Chards from Clones Robert Young, and Burgundian Dijons.

This particular Chard wakes up all senses with its vibrant notes of lemon meringue, some ripened lychees, and baked guava. On the palate is respectfully complex, baked stony fruits in the mid-range and the lemon and mandarine peels continue to dominate to the back-end of the tongue.

Mouthfeel overall, pleasant, savory on soft spices, creamy thanks to its 100% MLF, and enticing oak touch coming from the 35% new French oak the wine was seating on. Great price point considering the quantity produced (1,200 cases) and where it comes from. Cheers!

Adelaide Hills Chardonnay 2016

TSWC. Enjoyable drink. Creamy finish, but decent flavour profile to it with enough crispness to bite through things. Went well with a mushroom risotto. — 8 months ago

Unfiltered Cabernet Sauvignon Merlot 2004

Very distinct menthol on the front palette but rolls into deep fruit and chocolate with typical dusty tannin. Lovely — 2 years ago

Rancho la Viña Vineyard Pinot Noir 2022

2022 vintage. Tasted with the winemaker Matt Brady. Nearly equal (and maybe better) to the 2021 vintage. Jumped at the 2021 effort so no room for this one but absolutely delicious follow-up. Spice, tannins, fruit all in balance and verry harmonious. It’s Pinots like this that keep me sold on the Santa Rita Hills as dayumed likely the best pinot-producing area in CA. 03.12.25 — 2 months ago

Hanlin Hill Riesling 2012

Pale to mid yellow in colour. The wine was a little cold to begin with. Aromas of talc and lime marmalade, dried flowers - a faint paraffin note - No Kerosene or petrol (TDN). A beautiful aged Riesling from the Clare Valley from Petaluma - a long time favourite producer of Riesling. With air and warming up, some yellow peach notes developing. I see HH said this benefits from decanting which I didn’t do. Drinking at its peak. Sadly my last 2012. — 2 years ago
