Clos des Chênes Volnay 1er Cru Pinot Noir 2012

Lovely.

Nose: terrific old burgundy cherry and library dust. As this opens classic lilacs.

Palate: sweet cherry. Earthy.

Pommard Pinot Noir 2015

This is insanely great. In warm vintages I find Volnay and Pommard always delivery. 03/05/09/15. More warm vintages to come! Beautiful nose of tea leaf, earthy loamy minerality, gorgeous deep red cherry fruit that is almost exotic with a hint of licorice. Amazing fruit on this nose. But also really complex. Stunning. Fresh, elegant and beautifully balanced with ripe fruit but also cleansing acidity, some grippy tannin and big time depth. Amazingly fine tannins as it airs out. Like velvet. Stunning. I can’t believe how great this is. Will last 20 more years. — 6 years ago

Les Santenots Volnay 1er Cru Pinot Noir 2014

Candied red fruit and orange peel, a bit of fresh sawdust and baking spice. Licorice and a touch of plasticene. An almost unctuous mouthfeel with great acidity and fine tannins. Will be great in a decade. If any of us survive the next four years. — 8 years ago

Nice comment but with a sobering dose of realism.

Les Grands Champs Volnay 1er Cru Pinot Noir 2014

Insanity on the nose. Just bonkers. Sickness. Huge spice. Huge I mean huge spice. Also super mineral and very pure. Confectionary cotton candy like aromas and tree bark. Also tea. Maybe hoisin as well. Mindblowing. Big palate and immense power but incredibly elegant. It has Grand Cru grip and intensity and it is considered the best wine at the estate. Better than Clos des Chenes. It is insanely powerful and stacked to the brim with bright fruit and mineral that has sap, and really stains the palate. I think in 2 hours this will be insane. It’s changing every minute. What a wine. — 6 years ago

What a showing. Big classic nose of black and red cherries, spice, mashed flowers and a firm core of mineral. Lurid, feral and brooding yet also sweet and seductive. Insanely great aromas. Palate is a bit backwards now but show the high class terroir Pierrick Bouley is working with here. Great freshness and length and also ample structure. Insane length. Better in 3-4 years but wow. — 7 years ago

Bourgogne Pinot Noir 2015

Nose is a little toasty oak, blueberry juice, and blackberry.

Palate has oak-like cherry but very restrained on woody aspects, mid-season supermarket cherry, ripe plum, red raspberry, blackberry, TBD mineral, perfect acid levels!

I want to drink everything I have at this level, decanted for over one hour and this is absolutely perfect, nothing in the way of enjoyment. Pierrick Bouley is genius.

24hr Update: Nice giant (size-wise, not overpowering, the large sized berries have a more subtle flavor) blueberry flavor. Oak is more noticeable today, but not obtrusive to the red/blue fruits, a gentle compliment, perfect today.

Good notes. Blind tasted would you get Burgundy or new world?

@Michael Herzog Burgundy for sure for me, I tend to notice 'new world' showing more richness to the fruit. This is very respectful.
