Pouilly Fuissé, Mâconnais

Domaine J. A. Ferret

Les Ménétrierès Cuvée Spéciale Hors-Classe Pouilly-Fuissé Chardonnay 2012

Les Ménétrières is a one-hectare, southeast-facing vineyard with one third of the vines 40-years-old, one third 20-years, and a third are 10-years which are planted on shale in the upper half of the vineyard and pearly slabs in the lower half. The soils here are composed of alluvial deposits, layered with a sub-soil consisting of limestone and limestone marl streaks, with top layers rich in stone-free limestone deposits and light marls. These mineral rich soils greatly reflect in the 2012, which shows gorgeous streaks of minerality woven together with stunning aromas of Asian pear, white peach, lemon zest, almond, smoke, saline and a spicy floral character. It continues to impress as it expands on the palate with its lovely oily texture, which is beautifully cut by wonderful acidity that carries on through the delicious, mineral laced finish. Today, the Les Ménétrières seems to be the most complete and compelling wine I have tasted from the Domaine in this vintage. It is already showing tons of character and I only expect it to further evolve in the bottle — 10 days ago

Les Perrières Pouilly-Fuissé Chardonnay 2017

Pale lemon with medium intensity aromas of stone and tropical fruits with slight creamy spice notes. On the palate melon, pineapple, lemon, peach fruit with notes of vanilla spice. Medium finish. Vivid acidity ending a bit creamy with mineral and sweet spice notes. Drink now, no benefit from any bottle age. — 4 days ago

Pouilly-Fuissé Chardonnay 2017

Poor mans white burgundy with restrained peach and oak flavours. A whiff of light caramel and vanilla on the nose. A pleasant white to drink now or up to 5 years. — 2 days ago

Pouilly-Fuissé Chardonnay 2017

Light golden straw yellow color with stone and citrus fruit aromas. On the palate crisp apple with lemons honey and shy peachy notes. This medium-body wine was smooth with a wet stone character with overall good balance. The wine finishes with pronounced mineral notes on a lingering ending. Consistent quality year over year although the character has moved more on the minerality scale. Very Nice! — 16 days ago

Used to drink them young, then hid them away, when I got back to them I was very happy.

Louis Latour

Pouilly-Fuissé Chardonnay 2016

All of the grapes from the vineyards owned by the Latour family are vinified and aged in the cuverie of Château Corton Grancey in Aloxe-Corton. The winery was the first purpose-built cuverie in France and remains the oldest still-functioning. Pale straw with gold edges and aromas of stone fruits with a slight floralbcharacter. On the palate peach flavors with lemon nutty notes. The finish has lively acidity and ends with some of minerality. — a month ago
