Don’t brush off Merlot‘s. Especially if those Merlot’s are from Yountville, in Napa Valley. The climate in Yountville is particularly well-suited for grape growing. It sits in a sweet spot where it receives warm, sunny days perfect for ripening grapes, while cool evening breezes and fog from San Pablo Bay help too.
Let this wine open up and breathe for 2+ hours and you’ll be delighted with a similar complexity to a Cabernet, with Oakey notes and bright raspberry and plum flavors
An excellent choice from the same area as Stag Leap vineyards

2017 vintage.
This was a year greatly impacted by forest fires in Okanagan valley though this wine seems to be unaffected by these fires.
Raspberries, tobacco, pomegranate and leather on the nose.
Dark black fruits with plums and dark cherries in abundance.
Juicy and lively with nice acidity on the finish. — 3 years ago

2020 vintage Beautifully smooth Cabernet with luscious dark fruit notes easy on the palate smooth on the end light tannins not overbearing hits your palate in all the right places. A slightly rustic feel. — 2 years ago

Hearty cab with mild to medium tannins. Opened up well after sitting for a while - better on day 2 and definitely with food. Fairly dark, reflective of the dark red and black berries that come through. — 3 years ago

Wow! Went to a tasting at the winery and enjoyed a bottle of this overlooking their vineyard. This Oliver (Black Sage Road) BC Merlot was aged in French Oak and is just fabulous! Absolutely love it! — 7 years ago
Love this stuff! Always so incredibly enjoyable. This is a wine that I can sit back and relax as it’s not overly complex, but that’s what makes it so great. Fruit all over the spectrum, with cedar and spice, Andes mint, and silky in structure. Pop and pour! — 7 years ago
Strong aroma of walnuts at first approach. Strong coffee wn chocolate notes at palate. Fullbodied — 9 months ago
What a delicious bottle of wine. I’m not remembering when or where I got this or the cost but I’m impressed with how well it has held up after 23 years. — a year ago
Primarily Cabernet Sauvignon with small amounts (6%) of Merlot and Malbec blended in. Dark ruby color. Aromas of black cherry/currants, violets and toffee. The palate is also black fruit focused with additional flavors of chocolate, black licorice and black pepper. Touch of vanilla and fresh herbs on the medium length finish. The tannins have smoothed out and the acidity is quite bright. More medium bodied and subtly sweet. Easy drinker. — 2 years ago
2016 was a warm year in the Okanagan Valley.
Block 4 shows more red fruit compared to Block 2 which is blue fruit inclined.
The vines are 23 years old.
Dark cherry red in the glass with earthy flavours of cherries, dark raspberries, dried herbs and anice.
This wine has a lingering finish that stays for with you for several minutes. We pizza from scratch (our own dough) with local Matsutake mushrooms and thinly sliced local duck breast.
